Other Mini's, RPGS, Etc / Re: Anyone know where I can find one of these?
« on: September 30, 2011, 08:06:37 PM »
Most likely it's the one available either via Gangrel's link (the one with no pic) or via Acheson directly. To be certain, you could email them.
They've got a facebook page for the primaeval stuff, where you can see this pic:

(link in case the pic doesn't work)

Appologies for not remembering earlier where I had seen that big ape (almost wrote to Acheson if there was a pic available since I hate it when I can't remember where I've seen something).

Was going to suggest the Renedra gravestones set (scroll down), but that's ravens as well.

Out of curiosity: why do you think nobody remembers them, just cause there's never any flowers on the grave and it looks neglected?
Haven't been at my granddad's grave for years, just don't have the time for going to the cemetary.

Combining both colour schemes when painting the TD could work quite well actually (maggot body painted in grub tones blending them into pale green for the 'human' part, maybe with a hint of purple blended in for the head) .

Need to source some battery powered halogen lights or something that could be fixed inside the cabinets!
Osram dot it, several variants from round to linear, some adjustable, some even waterproof. Not that bad, bought one of the round ones when they first came out years ago. Battery's only now starting to show signs of running out.
If you cut ouf small bits of eg the magnet, it's also alot easier to change batteries later on.

To keep you up to date with my own searchings these look rather nice. I hope they're readily available to us in the UK.
At lest some of them are available from LAF or via Miniaturicum

thank you everyone for the suggestions - i have taken your advice and am going for Perry Miniatures Saracens and Warlord Celts

thanks!!
For the warlord celts, have a look at northstar's bargains, 30 instead of 40 minis, but also a lot cheaper.

Good choice for a paint scheme, should suit the Tunnel Dweller nicely as well.

Look for Revell Contacta plastic glue in model shops, I bought mine 15 years or so ago and it's still good to use.

That beard works quite well. Almost like your conversion more than the original.
I just might steal that idea...

I'm afraid now I'll need to order some starter sets...
Have a look here. Postage is quite high, but sadly that's down to german mail/ dhl. Still might be worth ordering from that shop, if you can't find the starters cheaper.
Recently bought a whole lot- two starter packs, two of the large battlesets, and a few of the spruts- a lot of stuff to play with for about €42. The starter & battle sets contain some of those hexagon terrain bits as well. Only thing I'm not quite sure what to do with is the troopers. Maybe I'll convert them into robots.

I have read about people using Sterillium for stripping miniatures. It's a desinfectant, like the stuff used in hospitals for cleaning/ desinfecting your hands. Have not tried it meself, but it might be worth checking pharmacies or online shops for something similar- in the worst case you'll end up with very clean hands...

I found some great ones on an Australian site just at the weekend when I was looking for resin figure bases. Annoyingly I can't now find it in my history! Can any of our antipodean buddies help?

« on: September 19, 2011, 02:07:20 PM »
Definitely use plastic glue. Superglue's ok for quickly attaching a head or so, but as Inso said polystyrene cement is much better.
Super glue + placcy is a bit like glueing instead of welding big metal parts (like a car body)- it will hold, but not very well.

Nice one!

Agree on the skin colour, a different paint scheme can quite drastically change a mini.

Sprue= all the parts of tanks/ miniatures/... + the frame they are attached to. The left overs can come in quite handy, as you can use them for all kinds of things once cut & chopped, twisted or (carefully) heated.
gw pic of Ork Boyz sprues

What I was referring to is basically this:
- find a round or oval shaped bit of plastic
- cut off a piece that's a bit longer than you want the candle to be
- open the window
- take some pliers, use them to hold the placcy bit
- take a lighter or a candle and hold that placcy bit close to the flame but not into the flame - you don't want the plastic to catch fire*!
it takes only a very short moment and the plastic will start to melt and look like molten wax
- now let the plastic bit cool off (doesn't take long), in the meantime cut off a tiny bit of wire
- take your pliers, use them to hold the wire while heating it as above
- before the wire's cooled off again, push it into the placcy candle you prepared earlier- the molten side, that's where the wire goes
- you can add wax drops with little drops of glue or putty, if you want
- for scenery that's supposed to be heavily covered in wax (an altar or similar), experimenting with a hot glue gun should lead to some nice results (hot glue guns are also usefull for creating quick icicles and stalagmites and stalactites)

*It's smelly, unhealthy and molten plastic is quite hot and fairly unpleasant when it ends up on your skin. Trust me on that one.

More of a classic look: Witch with Cauldron
Also have a look at the Spyglass Stuff, some should work, depending on how you paint them/ what bits you add.

Reaper has a selection of different witches, use the search function- easier than me posting all of them her

For candles try round bits from placcy sprues.
