Other Mini's, RPGS, Etc / Re: Studio McVey...does it again!

CMON is selling metal versions, for 25$ a piece (roughly equivalent to 16 pounds).

Weirdly, the McVey store isn't showing them. But as soon as they update that, I'm afraid I'll have to buy one for my Alien hunting boardgame.
Same with the strain stuff.

Seems to work ok for destinations in Germany, if that's any help at all.

They may smell a bit pinyfreshish and thin bits get a little brittle if you leave them in for too long. If you remember to rescue them and not forget all about them for 4 or 5 months you should be ok though...

Eye Candy / Re: Decals or stickers (or both)
« on: January 24, 2012, 12:54:48 AM »
Decals, if they sell well enough and people pester you about stickers, you still can invest money later in them as well. Decals are easier when you have to apply damage/ tear and wear to, they're a bit easier to apply over curved surfaces.

The martial artists should work as well.
Also the maws + mini maws. Don't know if your kids play Ludo* - think that's what you call it in English. If so they could paint the mini maws in appropriate colours, maybe have a nice custom board as well to gradually get them into gaming?
The World of Twilight stuff should also be good for kids, quite imaginative and probably easy for them to come up with little scenarios to game?

For dragons living in areas with large forrests, you could have the back scales of the young/ small ones have a fairly rough, bark like texture so that they'd be harder to see while sitting on a branch, maybe.

No matter what, I hope that imaginery explorer doesn't plan on bring home living samples of smaller species, it wouldn't end up nice...

Chrome parts: maybe a bit of Tamiya Clear SMOKE to make the whole a bit oily/ greasy looking?

More an idea on how to present the scales/ scutes. For smaller species you could have something like part of the body covered in partly exposed bony scutes with some where the kreatin plates still are on top as well. Pic of an armordillo, for better understanding.

What kind of teeth do you allready have cast or planned- it seems sensible to start with what's allready there (your explorer/ scientist most likely didn't just grab one tooth, but more samples). So from prey to habitat to appereance of the dragon.

For general ideas, I guess having a closer look at agamids and chameleons (nice granular scales there) might be a good idea. With some of the subfamilies of dragon there might be some sort of sexual dimorphism as well- brighter coloured scales on the males or possibly more prominent/ bigger scales.

other random thoughts:
- dragons that may have a lot of climbing to do could well have something akin to gecko lamellae on their feet, possibly ones living in a sort of rainforrest environment, where a combination of lots of big trees, thick undergrowth,... makes flying a bit complicated.
- would it be sensible to link the material the scales consist of to their prey as well maybe? Scutes functioning like armour plates for dragons that hunt prey that's more likely to fight back/ bigger/... for example. Overlapping, smoother snakey scales for sleeker dragons/ gliders like the one in my ice cave example.
- a dragon that mainly lives in coastal regions or even in the ocean itself could have scales that look more fishy and may have wings that act a bit like a pair of (extra) flippers. Though strong arms with webbing and tiny wings that only help with steering seem more sensible.
- quite a few animals swallow stones to help them with digestion. If a dragon living in a volcanic region would do the same and if you'd add fire breathing to that, would there be the posibbility of scales acting as some sort of blast furnace 'air/ gas vent'? Something like the hollow scales of a rattle snake's tail but with a tiny hole to help regulate the body temeprature, literally enabeling the dragon to let off some steam?
- for a dragon living in a very arid climate, maybe thorny devils might prove to be a good source of inspiration?

What kind of scales/ where on the body would they be located? Scales on the back have a fairly different shape to ones located on the belly (part of a crocodile).

Thinking about it a bit longer, could shape/ size of the scales not also depend on stuff like the climate, the dragon's habitat, diet? I.e. as smallish flightless dragon that mainly lives in a labyrinth of ice caves and hunts penguins would probably have problems being covered in spikey scales as they'd effectively prevent him from gliding through the cold maze he calls home, he'd need something a bit smoother. I know it's not a great example, but I couldn't think of anything else.

I have no idea how big blodletters are, but maybe combining Mantic ghouls & zombies with the seperate heads from Heresy + possibly some random chaos bits might work? Extraordinarily bad pic (no chaosy bits though):

Very cool mate, I'd like a go on the Super Dungeon Explore stuff but I can't find it anywhere.
Battlefield Berlin? Maelstrom would probably be cheaper on the postage front though.

Something that leaves me feeling a little sad. One of me neighbours (she's into her 90s) told me she'll be moving to a home for the elderly, sometime after christmas she'd be testing the place so to say.
As she had a stroke and a heartatack a few years ago, for the past two years (ever after that cursed redevelopment bullshit) I used to go over and collect her garbage to dispose of it since the doors would have been far too heavy for her to deal with. Yesterday another neighbour told me, she won't be coming back and her family allready started to remove the furniture- would have been nice if somebody had told me, would've been nice if somebody'd told her!  Not just because I would have been able to plan my time differently, but mainly because it would've been nice to say goodby and have her new address so that I could visit her every once in a while and write to her.

Plans for the immediate future (none of them christmas related):
Hopefully finish my mini for the Frothers Inaugural Painting Competition in time.
Start painting my WWI fantasy stuff + a silly charriot.
Finish the Zombies & Cthulhu stuff.
Some more sculpting (big fat cartoony Ogres).
Spent some more time on the silly cartoony placcy mutants cobbled together from various GW parts.

Sort my minis (horrible mess mostly stored in cardboard boxes ).
Actually managed to finish one.

Do you have any milliput?
If so, mix a bit and use some water to dillute it.
Brush it on, like a wash.
Let it dry.
Repeat if necessary and sand it smooth once fully cured.

I wonder if insisting that all the radios had been sold out (probably bought as christmas presents) so that you were left with no other option than to buy an ipod would work...
Violence as answer to that kind of idiotic behaviour seems a bit drastic- I'm sure there's quite a few entertaining ways to combine human body parts + super glue though.

Think that was Whiffwaff?
If you mean the ones available from Splintered Light, then yes it was.

beefcake, have you tried those Marx cars of the future? They're a bit big (but as they're retro-scifi things that never really existed, I can live with that) and they're plastic but with a little work should be ok.

.:edit:.
Not sure, if that was you who doesn't use ebay. If that's the case pm me your address, I've got 8 of the cars so I guess I could spare on.
