Weasely, shady, gobbo weapons merchants and space traveling privateers? Sounds like a good idea to me, even if I don't paint sci-fi.

The base color is a nearly black purple.

Great work! For the flames -- I would try reversing the highlighting. At least, that's what I'm planning to do when I get this one... I thought that I saw one by gi6ers like that but I'm not able to find it now... I did find this though:

So basically, paint the recesses with the brightest colors, and 'highlight' to darker colors...

Thanks for that, but I had intended it to be un-natural looking.

Good idea ink.  Maybe I'll give that a try.

Finch, I am quite proud of Lucius' face.  It has so much character and I feel I managed to do it some justice.  Thanks.

Heresy / Mullet the Barbarian and Company

So here's what I've been working on these last few weeks.

Armed with his fearsome axe, Mullet leads his group on quests for riches, to destroy evil creatures, or what have you.  Carrying the Witch's Torch that he gained by slaying the Witch of the Blackest Night, which burns with an eerie purple flame, giving off no heat or light except to the bearer and those he wishes to have light to see by.  Clad in bracers and boots lined with the fur of the rare Fire Fox, which protect him against most types of fire.  Untested against the fire of a red dragon for Mullet is not so foolish as to risk such an endeavour.

A rare sight among the Elves of the Sky Trees the twins, Si'Rene and Shae.  Unheard of even for their people, and apparent even from a very young age, the twins seem to be completely of one mind in two bodies.  Capable of great feats in battle as they see with two sets of eyes and think with one mind.  Shae being able to put an arrow into a foe her sister is engaged in combat with, Si'Rene knowing exactly where the arrow will fall as she effectively fired it herself.  Two bodies, one mind, yet two individuals with separate personalities, capable of functioning separately, but seamless as one.

The priests, Brother Bude, the exorcist, Brother Lucius, the healer.  Bude, armed with his trusted and powerful mace, carrying his holy symbol to banish and destroy the various forms of undead terror.  Lucius, armed with his stout and surprisingly heavy hitting hammer, he stands by to offer rejuvenation and support when needed and also a fierce fighter if brought to bear.

Kaylee of the Elves of the Oaken Vale.  Shimmer of the Sky Trees, distant cousin to the twins.  Kaylee, the magic user capable of great destructive force but preferring to use the arts of defence whenever possible.  Shimmer the thief and acrobatic.  Whose prowess at the martial arts of her clan surprised even the masters.  With the ability to seemingly run along walls and ceilings such is her speed, all the while disarming traps her companions would surely regret setting off.  Is her speed due to skill and training or are her simple leather clothes enchanted?  Only she knows for sure.

The group together.

As soon as I saw Mullet, I said 'that torch needs to be purple'  I don't really know why but I felt it needed to be done.  I wanted Mullet to have some color and not just be shades of brown so I came up with the orange fur.  The first coat of orange made him look like he was wearing some 70's shag carpet so I washed it with a reddish orange and didn't even give it any highlighting.  I think it came out cool.  I also went with a green glass look for the potion bottle.  The wolf head on the axe is actually done in ivory but didn't show well.  My Kaylee is the resin one I got from Steve before he moved on from Spyglass.  Everyone else, except Shimmer is from Heresy, obviously.  I wanted to have Shimmer more dynamic, so I removed the tree stump and made it look as though she were dodging an attack.  I think it worked well.  Si'Rene and Shae are painted with the same colors to reflect that I wanted them to basically be one person with two bodies.  Shae's shirt and cloak are different greens but it doesn't show well in the photos.  Bude and Lucius are of different orders so they have slightly different robes.  The dark browns on the robes are the same formula I used for Shimmer's dark leather and most other leather for the group.  I started Bude's hood before I did Lucius's robes and it looked good, then tried the same color for Luc's robes and it didn't work at all, so Luc's robes a bit different.  With the exception of Kaylee, I used washes a lot, which I haven't used much of at all in the past.  I really like how the washes turned out.  The twin's hair was base colored, washed then highlighted as were the monk's robes, Shimmer's clothes and hair, Mullet's skin, leggings and furs.  I think I'll be using washes more frequently now.  Opinions and hum-bugging welcome.

Lately, the things that have been note worthy have all been about painting.  I now only have to paint the torch flame, his hair and do the base and my version of Mullet will be done.  And with him the adventuring party will be complete, not that they will likely ever see game time as I just paint for fun.

Three hours later and he is done except for his base and the bases of the previous two party members.  Inspiration is a great thing when it strikes.

First off, love those trunks and the skin is awesome.

Second: Dude!  That's an aweful thing to happen, any mallady of the eyes is terrible and can be risky.  Glad to hear you're on the mend.  Now paint more stuff.

Ps welcome back to painty town.

Good question!  Makes me happy to see more fantasy minis coming on board.  Not that sci-fi is bad but they've been overshadowing most other ranges from many makers it seems.

Smallish beans today.  In three, possibly four sessions of an hour or so, maybe longer, in the last couple days I've managed to start and finish two more minis.  My adventuring party is nearly complete, only mullet left to paint after I've done the bases of these last two.  Then off to one of the hundred or so other projects.

Everything posted here is a fantastic sculpt on its own, all together they are mind boggling.  However as I am not a cthulumaniac and was broke, I did not get in on this ks.  I do have an interest in this one, and hope I can get her by herself.

Despite how hot it has been here, I've managed to get four minis finished over the last month.  Four.  Not too happy with that count, but my painting room gets so hot late in the day that I can hardly stay in there for ten minutes.  Hoping to get some pics up soon.
