Eye Candy / Sometimes Wish I was an Official Paint Minion...
« on: March 19, 2014, 01:22:33 AM »
Because of shinies like these.

Looks like another order soon. :notworthy:

They've all got the dark grey base coat for the rusty steel effect now.  I guess I will take the next picture when the steel parts are done.  Hope I can get time to paint today.

Six hours later.  Still funny.  What else am I supposed to do.

Today's edition isn't so much made me happy as made me laugh uproariously.  So my scooter is down, I ordered some more parts today.
NBD got my beater car insured Saturday, so at least I can get to work.
Nope.  Not any more.  Car was fine Sunday, to and from work no issues.  Went to work this morning, all good.  Got in the car to come home, started car, backed out of my parking space, put the car in drive, BOOM, CA-LUNK.  Wtf was that noise?  Hmmm, car still goes forward, oh well, figure it out when I get home.  Car drives fine, until you try and brake.  The car cuts a HARD left when moderately pressing the brake pedal.  Makes coming to a stop in a straight line a challenge, and makes a horridly loud noise when starting off again.  So, I made my 8km trip home rather carefully.  Due to the amount of pull when braking, I did not have to steer when entering my driveway, only needed to vary the brake pressure and then fight the car to straighten out.  Now for the laughing part.  I get out of the car and begin checking over the front end and find that I can take hold of the left side front tire at the top of it, and pull out, leaning the tire out at about 20-30 degrees off vertical.  First I thought it was a broken ball-joint, but no, the upper control arm (or A arm to some) has ripped free of it's mounts and is almost not attached to the car.  I found this wildly humorous, because I just completely replaced all the brakes, insured it for three months, and named the car Danger Mouse, because it is small, grey and felt dangerous to drive.  That was an hour ago now and I'm still giggling about the whole thing.  I wasn't expecting much from a car made in 1986, and not particularly looked after, but I was hoping for more  :lmao :lmao: :D

Finally started painting these guys.  Nothing too exciting.  The first three to get the base coat for the rusty steel parts that all the cultists seem to be so fond of.

Fixed the date in the topic

Still looks pretty darn nice to me! It looks dark, gritty, and the red eyes set it all of quite nicely! I think you're your own worst critic. Heh! ...we all are, though, so it's to be expected. (^_^) That is an amazing looking Oakley, too, sir. Nicely done!

Looking good here.  I really like the look of them with shoulder mounted weapons.  Makes them look like seige weapons.

Discerned things of issue with scooter.  Belt worn out, knew that already, roller weights in variator have flat spots, suspected so, but worse than expected.  Also may have to change the bearing in the clutch assembly, as well as one if not both pulley halves of variator.  NBD got my beater car insured today so at least I can get to work.  Besides, that is what you get for riding it four years straight and only doing oil and air filter changes isn't it?

Not going to totally rule out fuel pump or possible ECM glitch until these things have been fixed.  I know I said fuel pump not the problem but I cannot be entirely sure until I can test drive it again.

any chance its the Exhaust getting clogged leadhead?  had a friend who used to ride a scooter and he said it was common.

Haven't checked that yet either.  Don't think it is, unless the muffler is coming apart inside.  My scooter is 2009 Honda 4 stroke, which means oil isn't mixed with the gas, among other differences.  That said the pipe is small, carbon could cause restrictions.

Have you tried kicking it?.....  That usually gets the exchange rate a bit better.

I kicked it hard enough I may have broke it.

Still haven't got my scooter fixed yet.  I've eliminated the fuel pump and filter as the problem.  Gas isn't old as I ride 32km every day and fill the tank every two weeks.  I have not opened up the carb yet, it could be clogged/dirty, and I have not checked the clutch shoes or variator yet.  I do know the belt is about done, and have a new one handy.

Another thing that gets me:  exchange rate between GBP and CAD.  12 = $22.18, as I type this.  I wanted to buy a couple shiny toys but I think I'll have to wait, or sell some stuff.  Got a couple of things to go to ebay, not miniature related though.

Why has Deviantart, a website that used be a great site for emerging artists, become a dumping ground for My Little Pony tripe?  Hope I don't offend anybody, but it annoys me greatly.

How does one not go blurdy loopy painting all them tiny windows?

Yes, I know Tilda is inspired by another character.  I would still like to see more female minis with her body type.  Particularly more fantasy females.

Those four eyes make him veeeryyy creepy.

She looks great, but I feel the hair may be too bright.  Great work though.  Are they going to be in a dio called 'The First of Them'? :silly

Why do people think it's ok to openly criticise your home when they come to view it as a potential buyer? :(
My wife and I have been to view a few properties, but we make mental notes and discuss it after the viewing, not infront of the current owner and in a, frankly, rude manner. :(

Bugs me too.

My Scooter.  This morning on my way to work, my scooter crapped out.  4 years of almost total reliability and it decides it doesn't want to play anymore.  It runs but lacks power, won't do more than 30km/hr if that.  Guess I know what I'm doing this weekend.

Shadowseer, I hope I did not offend you.  It was not my intention at all.  I may not have worded my post well.

I do have to agree with Inso about there already being enough minis derived from other characters.  Bring on more original ladies built like Tilda!

Man, can lining be tedious.  Atleast its done.  Six squads of guardsmen/women and one preacher, each with their own skin tone, makes seven different humanoid skin tones.  Seven members of the Maulers, so each one gets a unique to him skin color.  Might take longer to paint but might look better over all.

Here they are, ready for metal work.

What could possibly be alterations to Bri without taking too much of his character away?

I'm sure that you are already aware of this but, if kev is going to make figure A based on character B and does not own said character, then figure A has to be different enough from character B to avoid infringing on Intellectual Property copyright laws.  How much this would take away from character B's original 'character' is hard to say.

Did that make any sense?

Cool. Also it's march ;) can't wait to see something more on it. Makes me want to start on V1

Dang it!!!!  Hadn't done that yet this year.  Put the wrong year on a bunch of stuff, but that was the first month.  The first to be pointed out anyway. :tantrum:

Ps,  I did start some cleaning of my Winged NL1 the other day.  Boy's got some big arsed wings.

Wow, been a long time since I've touched this thread.  I have progressed as far as assembling the whole torso some time ago.  Today while gluing the troll and his buddy to their base, I filled about half of the seams on the body with green gook.  I'll get a picture or two when the torso is filled fully.
