Hasslefree Babble / Re: Hasslefree Minis as Presents
« on: January 17, 2012, 05:41:37 AM »
I've tried to get my GF/spouse to buy me minis for presents.  It's never worked though.  I've not given any as presents because they would not be appreciated.  The only friend I had who painted was my former mordheim nemesis/victim (I won a lot with both skaven and witch hunters), but we haven't been friends for 10 years.  So, I get to keep everything I paint to myself muahahahaha

I think I was going to go with some crossbows.  But having had a look at the crossbows and arms I have, I think I'll go with flails instead.  Yeah, flails would suit the maggot themed army much better.  After all, a flail makes a bigger maggot hole than an arrow.

Got my order today!  Took four business days to get from Andy to western Canada!  The only problem I had was, I couldn't remember how I was going to convert some of them.

Looks great!  Is that some dark grey outlining on those leg pouches?
Only thing I might consider doing would be to hit them with a dull coat, so they're not quite so shiny.
I would agree with MW here but who am I to say, I never varnish anything at all!

Again, looking good here.

Well, I never interacted with him on the FoD, but when I saw this picture a minute ago he was the first person to come to mind.

This is for you Grek, in your memory and honor.

ps.  I don't own this photo and I hope the owner doesn't mind.

Had a good laugh at myself just now.  I have been trying to find a part of a story that I read in an issue of Heavy Metal quite a while ago.  I haven't been able to come up with any ideas, but I had a feeling that the story was done by Pat Mills and Olivier Ledroit, the same authors of Requiem: Vampire Knight.  So I decided to write an email to Heavy Metal.

I wrote: Hi.  This may be a bit of a hard question but here goes.  I am looking for an issue of Heavy Metal that I read once, sadly I no longer have that issue, so I am trying to find it again.  I don't know what year it was from but I do know that it was from between 1999 and 2002.  What I can remember about the story had to do with a fleet of ships moving across the galaxy, I think bringing Christianity to other planets.  One panel in the story showed a man holding a little green alien that he had given chewing gum to.  Other parts of the story involved a sport called "Dwarf Ball".  I hope I'm not getting things mixed up here.

I was going to write more but, it was at this point that I picked up the copy of 'Sha' (by Mills & Ledroit published by Heavy Metal), that I had just got in the mail from an online bookstore.  I got it on Friday Jan 13 (haven't gone beyond page 10 or so).  Lo and behold!  The fleet of ships and alien with gum are the opening few pages of part 2!   :jawdrop:  Imagine, if I had read the book the second I got it, I could have saved myself, like, the twenty minutes it's taken to write this and the start of my letter to Heavy Metal!!! :tantrum:  And, I would have said "OMG (but the whole expression, not the acronym) that's what I've been trying to find!!"

I am such a weirdo.  Look in the dang book you just got siuptd! :silly  So the issue I was trying to find was March 2000.  The brain is an odd thing...

Thanks.  I'd say that was the best one I could find, but it was the first one I found.

I was thinking more like being used as bloodhounds.  As they are veg eaters they won't bite or eat their quarry.

Wicked job on the sculpt.

Why does eveyone paint AND takes better pics than me?  :blub:
Nice job

I think in this field you have painted these better than I could.  Undead/rotting flesh is something that is totally alien to me.  To date, the only times I've ever attempted such a thing is the head in the hand of the Tunnel Dweller (which sucked) and the skeletons on the priests staves/staffs/sceptres/whatever.  I do however have a copy of Deth and Taxxis that just got primer yesterday.  Don't know when it'll see more than that, it sat assembled for most of a year.  As for taking pictures, macro mode is a must for individual minis.  I'm not so good with a camera still, and taking pictures of multi minis always leaves me befuddled.

Just to revive this a little, is anyone else experiencing really slow loading the home page?

WOOT! #727 out the door!  woot zoot!  It was a fairly fat one too.  7 packs of tunnel guard troops and two packs of 40mm bases.  Thank you money from Christmas.

Just another reason I only buy GW for bits.  Only oop/previous edition parts at that (usually from evilbay).  I wonder if they are going to do anything about all these issues that seem to be happening.  Being rather uneducated about finecast, it seems to me like maybe they didn't do enough testing and experimenting before they went to production with it.  Maybe Ed at Trollforged needs to license/lease the plastic mix he uses to them.  I was working with some of the demon worms from his shop today.  I liked working with it.  It's not soft like most injection plastics, its harder and is much easier to file without taking too much off.  The only issue I had with it was, I tried to prime one.  With white primer (becasue I was already priming some Heresy stuff).  I really couldn't tell what was primed and what not, except for the greenstuff fill at the head joint. :lmao:

How goes the wading through the holiday sale orders?   :boing:  Can't wait to get mine.  But then, I am horribly impatient.  Sorry.

Coly Hrap.  I never realized how big that guy is.  That's one more thing I need to not try and find right now.

Looks airbrushed to me.

As long as it look pretty that is fine to me

Either way, decent job so far

What I was trying to say is that the face is insanely smooth and even, with no visible brush strokes or overlap.

As for energy screens...someone has been watching too much Star Wars / Star Trek ;)!

Honestly, haven't watched ANY ST in years, and at least a year for SW.  Need more good fantasy movies/shows.  I'm mostly into just fantasy stuff these days.

More just a laugh than happy.  Ordered some books from Amazon the other day, shipping status says: Shipment Date:  Dec 31 1969 Estimated Arrival:  Jan 17 2012.  43 years?!  Who buggered that data up?

Nice job - like the banner designs

Thanks D, the designs were the easy part.  Realizing the banners would look good using the army color was surprisingly hard.

Really like the banners as well and the muddying of the robes.

I am really happy with how the robes turned out.  The only problem with them is, I have many yet to do.  I didn't think the banners would look right if they were muddy...

Nice job

Pat, painting takes practice and some daring, unless you have rediculous talent (I still need practice).  As far as pictures go,  these took me about an hour and several hundred tries until I was happy.  Mostly it took so long because I was trying to get them all to be dark like that, because they seem to look better this way.  Bless digital cameras.

Thanks to everyone who has looked and to those who haven't yet.
