Since I live in Spain at the moment I'd have to say here: http://www.castles.org/castles/Europe/Western_Europe/Spain/Manzanares/  Big lake of fresh water nearby and a few fields.  Some modifications for power and you'd be all set.

Ooh, or some futuristic looters and scavengers like the Hulk Hounds http://www.the-scythes.com/PROJECTS/HOUNDS/hounds.html

I really like these troopers, however I think I would prefer them with the pack optional.

Did you decide how multi-part they would be?

As I redneck I can say we do NOT look like that any more.  Most of us wear shoes in the winter and brush our teeth and bathe year round.

Now we look like this:

A heavy weapons or special weapons would be a nice option too.

Wow great stuff!

The pally looks a little like Don Quixote to me (I live near Alcalá, the birth place of Cervantes and there are statues of Quixote everywhere).  Having said that, he looks very cool.  I wonder what he would look like as some kind of Space Paladin.

I´m going to have to purchase some of your troopers dude!  I was wanting some humans to be a part of my Grymn Mercenary force.  I was looking at getting some Plastic GW guardsmen, but yours look much cooler (and I´d rather give my € to FoD companies)  Any ETA on when they´ll be in production?

Hummm... How about, the version that causes you the least head ache but allows for some easy conversions, and the best price point.  What would that look like?  I'm not sure.  Possibly head and or arm weapon options?   I have some old GW eldar guardians that were metal but came with plastic arms and weapons sprues.  It gave some nice options for arming them.  I could make standard guardians with lasguns, special weapons guardians or assault guardians.  It was a nice option to have, that way I could build them to suit my need.

Very nicely done!  Welcome to the FoD!

What base did you put it on?  I like the painted checkered squares.

Highlighting (start with basic 3 colour shade/midtone/highlight schemes)

As a novice painter one of the things I do to help me with this is buy the three shades at the same time.  That way I can match he paint right in the store and it gives me a good idea of where I wanna go with the paint job.

I like the base.  Did you make it yourself?

Welcome to the FoD!

Thank you so much for the kind words and encouragement!

@ Wearblind - I found a blue to white gradient online (I forget where) that I printed out and use.  Here's a link http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/-k_8c2_MNvvgOG_wRosQBg?authkey=Gv1sRgCJGNvNDjhIzmigE&feat=directlink

With these guys I tried a bit of a different technique from the last batch.
Prime Black
Base - Vallejo Model Color - Red
Wash - GW Badab Black, just in the cracks, etc.
Wash - GW Baal Red
Paint - VMC - Carmine Red
Highlight - VMC - Vermillion
Highlight - VMC - Vermilion 50% , VGC - Yellow 50%

Metals - VMC Oily Steele
Wash GW Badab Black
Drybrush VMC - Silver

With the first bunch I tried to just paint red the red parts while leaving the black lines alone.  (That probably doesn't make sense).  In other words I tried to layer on the paint in the appropriate places, and it took a lot longer.  In addition I did a GW Baal Red Wash after every layer hoping that it would help blend the layers.  It didn't work as intended.  It left some of the red splotchy looking.

Questions and Answers / Re: How to "Finish" a model in Cold Weather?
« on: February 15, 2010, 12:17:25 PM »
Well I just got back from the local store and picked up two bottles of Vallejo Matt Varnish, and one of each of Satin and Gloss.  I am now ready to enter the world of paint on Varnish!  Just oooooone itty bitty question....

What, generally speaking, would I use the different finishes on?  Cloth=matt I'm guessing.  Maybe gloss on metallics or things that represent liquids? What would Satin be used on?  Satin or silk fabrics only?

Thanks guys, I look forward to hearing your advice.

With the completion of these five I have a one squad done.  I have two more to do but they will have to wait a bit.  I promised my son I'd paint his Land Speeder next, and after that I have my Grymn Assault Squad to paint as well as Sola and Kjaran.

:metoo: I only ever brush varnish - couple of coats of Vallejo Matte and then a coat of Testors Dullcote if necessary and Bob's your uncle !

I was unaware that there was a brush able finish for models!  All I've ever used (or even seen in the small shops in the states) was spray on.

Does the Vallejo come in the same type bottle as the paint?
Can I clean the brushes with water or do I need some type of cleaner?
Do I need special brushes for the paint on stuff?
Does it protect the model well when gaming?

Thanks for the new info guys!

Questions and Answers / How to "Finish" a model in Cold Weather?
« on: February 12, 2010, 04:11:37 PM »
I'm sorry if this sounds like a silly question, but living in Florida all my life I've never really ran into this problem.

I've got about 15-20 miniatures that I want to finish.  Usually I use Vallejo Matte Varnish that I spray on, but for the first time in my life I'm facing a real winter!  It's been too cold or too cold and wet for me to spray (I want to avoid the "fuzzies")  So, what other alternatives are available to me?  How do you guys do it?

Thanks in advance!

Libertee's Miscellaneous Musings II / Re: What are you reading right now?
« on: February 02, 2010, 12:19:39 AM »
Starship Troopers - Robert A. Heinlein.  The movie, IMO, was rubbish.  The book, rocks.
Quite enjoyed the movie - as long as you stop trying to compare it to the book it's pretty hilarious at times.

I have a hard time doing that unfortunately.  I sometimes avoid movies based on books that I really enjoyed because I know that scenes in the book I like may be omitted, changed and/or butchered.  I understand that sometimes it is necessary to make changes when a book is made into a move, but I don't even think they read Starship Troopers before they even made it into a movie.  Some of my nit-picking includes:

~There was no love story.  Carmen was only in the beginning when they signed up, and then toward the end when Juan was in OCS
~What happened to the power Armor?  The one man wrecking team?  The dude that could take out an armor company?
~The father / son tension between Juan and his father and their reconciliation.
~The final scene where they are getting ready to drop, and the exchange between Juan and his Sargent (Name avoided as to not spoil it for those who haven't read it).
~There are many more, but I those are some of the biggies.
