General Ranting / Re: Warzone figure?
« on: February 15, 2012, 06:45:24 AM »
I swear I've seen this before. You sure he's not an inquisitor from the old Rogue Trader days?

I had looked on Stuff of Legends, but thanks to your prompt, found on Collecting Citadel Miniatures

Thanks

I posted this on MH forum, and it was suggested that the FOD may be able to help identify this miniature, so, fingers crossed

Edited, smaller picture

I've no problems with the HF site, but I have had problems with the FoD. I frequently have to refresh after getting a blank screen initially. That's IE on WIndows and Dolphin on Android.

Yep. Fod's been getting realy bad recently. Lots of refresh attempts required :(.

 :metoo:

...same here, using firefox!!!!!!!

So how does 1:48 scale match with 28mm ?
All this scale malarky leaves me confused.......

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miniature_wargaming#Scale

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_scale_model_sizes

http://theminiaturespage.com/ref/scales.html

http://www.thefaceofbattle.com/hobby/scales.html

The following is my take on this subject, and is not supposed to be the definitive answer

So for a six foot man;

1/43.5 = O gauge (RR) = 42mm

1/48 = 38mm = Lego minifigs??????

1/56 = 32mm

1/64 = S Gauge (RR) = 28mm

1/72 = 25mm

1/76 = OO gauge (RR) = 24mm

1/87 = HO gauge = 20mm

.....but that is from floor to top of head, and most wargames figures are to the eyes, and then some are now heroic scale 28mm (ie 32mm?)

Yes, we are all now confused, but for some reason 1/56th sticks in my mind as a good average, so 1/48th is slightly larger

I have used 1/48th vehicles for conversions (actually have a Hobby Boss KV-2 for Orks in (very slow) progress), and I believe that Kev and Inso have used Academy Merkavas and Kitech/Zhengdefu Bradleys for similar

Questions and Answers / Re: 28mm vs scale (Futuristic cars?)
« on: November 05, 2011, 05:49:22 PM »
Warlord Games have 28mm as 1:56th, which I believe to be about correct, but is that true 28mm scale or Heroic 28mm scale (another can of worms opened)

Ever started stripping an ebay purchase and ended up thinking, "By Grapthar's Hammer! What did they undercoat this with!?!!"
Sheesh.
At the moment it's resisted acetone and turned into a weird white slime that just rehardens with Dettol. Picking away slowly with pointy thing and toothbrush now.

Have you tried Fairy Power Spray. Place figure in a jar, spray and close lid. Leave for half a day, then scrub under running water with old toothbush, should do the job

Or, Humbrol Liquid Poly. Again, can be left in a jar with liquid poly, or dap on, leave for a minute, then brush/pick-off

Questions and Answers / Re: Halfords grey primer?

I have used Halfords grey primer with no problems up to now, I actually prefer painting on the neutral grey (my eyes are too old to distinguish detail on black)!

All the best on your new career path, good news for you and GW

If people are still looking for a female commissar then the free figure at today's Hammerhead show in Newark was packaged as a female 'political officer', Could be a useful figure. In previous years they've sold the excess figures after the show. Maybe worth searching for their website and dropping an email.

Forgot to thank you for the Hammerhead idea. I did contact them and got some when they attended a Warmachine tournament at Triple Helix. Good figure, but I still would like a Steve B miniature, especially in his new 'realistic' monk style!

Missed this one

Any feedback?

You all missed an appalling show!  :erm:

From friends, the show had grown year on year, with all aspects of model making, radio control and engineering catered for, as well as wargaming (I think the previous years had been co-sponsored by GW). This year, they ran for three days, over a bank holiday weekend. I went on the Sunday, and it was poorly attended, with no 'atmosphere' or 'buzz'. I think they had overextended the show by having three days. May also had an impact from the general economic climate?  :paranoid2:

The wargaming was very dull!

I won't be going next year!

Questions and Answers / Re: Looking for a Giant Dragonfly
« on: May 27, 2011, 06:26:16 PM »

On the other hand I've had problems, well documented here and on my blog, dealing with Miniature heroes in the past. Their response was to stop trading with me.

I have ordered from Miniature Heroes, and had no problems at all! I can only assume others have also had no issues, otherwise they would not still be trading successfully!

« on: April 23, 2011, 06:48:07 AM »
Thanks for all of your help and suggestions

Finally swapped to the USB lead to prove no suspicious stuff on computer 'stealing' bandwidth, and the USB connections was faster at 5.2Mbps! (Ethernet 2.8Mbps)

So, deleted ethernet port driver and reinstalled, and now back at 9.4Mbps! So, it was a corrupt driver!

Thanks

Sitting in the garden from 08:15 in the evening, with my five year old daughter, waiting hopefully to see some bats. Then at 8:30 (dusk), to my daughter's delight, three bats fly about for five minutes!
