I love it Z!

It's basically perfect!! This whole pregnancy thing seems to be doing wonders for your painting hand! Maybe I should get myself preggers - got the golden demons coming up....

What I really like is the contrast between the earthy WWI tones and the brightness of the hobbit aspects/curtains/shrubbery etc - very nice indeed!

Work always is boring I think...

Anyone from the FoD going to this show?

Its this weekend (9th and 10th Sept), and from what I hear is quite a good size...

Quote
The biggest two day event in wargaming and military modeling fairs in Southern Britain.
The event is hosted by Newbury and Reading Wargames Society.

Colours 2006 will be held in the Grandstand at Newbury Race Course, Newbury, Berkshire, UK.
On 9th & 10th September 2006 from 10am to 5pm both days.

Colours is organised by Newbury and Reading Wargames Society.

The show contains over 60 trade stands which sell every thing form the latest collectable card game to army lists for ancients armies. There are also numerous demonstrations and participation games which you can watch and/or join in depending on the game. Colours includes demonstraions by re-enactment societies of ancient and not so ancient warfare. The show also hosts one of the biggest wargame championships in the UK, as well as a painting and modelling competion. The venue at Newbury Race Course has plenty of free parking as well.

Adam, you've got to get your one painted - it really sells the model! I liked it before, but after seeing this painted one i REALLY like it now!

@Carsjr: really like the way you've done him and the armour looks really realistic

are you going to black-line between his hands?

He is looking awesome! The reaper barbar you painted was your best work to date... but now this guy is so nearly finished he clearly blows the other Reaper one out the window. Definitely my favourite of all your minis now!

Some idiots have been pouring scorn on the guy and his career, outside of OZ it seems his conservation etc is ignored.

Tell me about it.  It seems like this is the only forum I visit where someone hasn't tried it yet.

I just keep deleting them

(joke)

Balgin, do you have any idea how much time and effort Steve Irwin put into ecology and conservation?

No?

Not many people do outside Oz - he didnt blow his own trumpet, or strut around bathing in the glory if his own selflessness. He had a great respect for animals and a realy enthusiastic curiosity which allowed people to see the magnificance of these creatures really quite close. Yes, he was different to our Bellamies and Attenboroughs, but he was an archetypal Crocodile Dundee and a modern counterpart for these guys who were my staple TV when I was younger (who am I kidding, I still watch attenborough whenever he is on!).

At least it was quick...!

I think ithis sort of thing also helps when determining which colours to use to shade/highlight to get different effects. A very useful resource - thanks for sharing!

I reckon that in Kev's case, the speed it is sculpted probably just means he is really into it and focussed, and as such its probably going to be even better than a slower piece ;)

Questions and Answers / Sculpting smoothly
« on: September 05, 2006, 03:55:00 PM »
Hi guys...

I have a question for all you experienced sculptors out there... When you are laying one piece of green over a dried piece, how do you stop a ridge forming and get the top piece to blend smoothly with the bottom?

For example, in Kev's recent WIP of the tigress, you can clearly see the different areas of greenstuff used (which I know is just the bulking stage), but when he is fnished they are totally smooth and there is no way of telling that it is made of more than one piece. How do you get it so smooth?

ta muchly!

IMO, shorter = more powerful looking, so yeah it's on purpose.

Very nice!
