The Colouring-in Room / Re: 15mm Madness...
« on: September 17, 2009, 09:07:13 AM »
Brilliant work so far Inso! :)  I like 15mm nearly as much as Bungle, so I'm a bit biased, but I'd love to see more of these chaps!

I painted about twenty of these chaps some time ago for exactly the same reasons, Bahir :)  This was my result, uniforms are based on the pics on the front of the ICE Box they came in:

All the colours are a single colour with one simple highlight colour. Except the gold and the black, which aren't highlighted.  I spent an excessive amount of time on them, like about 10 hours in total for the 20 figures ;)

I don't know what's more spooky...the whole 09/09/09 thing or the indepth knowledge so many people have where barcodes are concerned ;).

The number of crackpot conspiracy theorists I have calling me at work with EVERYTHING under the sun involving numbers, barcodes, toes on the vision of Daniel etc. etc. etc. means I have to be pretty up on these things.

You don't work for that Illuminati Call Centre in the mid-west, do you, Darknight? :D

GW, where would we be without them?

Not giving as much of my money as I do to Mike at Black Hat* for Coat d'Arms Paint.

*With apologies to the QoD for mentioning other companies!

Are you talking about the guard bars that separate number blocks in a barcode?  They look a little like a single digit '6', but the spacing is different.  And I think they're only present in UPC and EAN encodings.

Anyway, like you say, still a good factoid to dole out to the paranoid drunk :D

Questions and Answers / Re: Highlighting red
« on: September 09, 2009, 11:44:47 AM »
Depends what "texture" of red I want as a result.  The red on the armour of my space marines I highlight up with yellow as I want something bright, vibrant and bold.  On the jackets of my victorian sci-fi british soldiers, I mix GW Red Gore with Bleached Bone to give a more fabric and slightly faded look.  If I want a pink, I'll mix with white, using the red as the deepest shade. And most recently on a gang of redemptionist for necromunda, I wanted a cherry red leather effect (like cherry red dockers that were a la mode in the early 90s) so I went from black to red gore, with a touch of CdA's desert sand added to the red for the highest highlight.

All that rambling might or might not be of use to you, but I always try and think about what kind of red I want before I start.

It is a bit of a release isn't it?  I got home from work yesterday to find that Mrs Keeper had cleaned half the house without the kids to bother her! :)

Might not be totally what your customer is after, libertee, but Dom's decals do some nose-art transfers in his 1/300 and 1/600 aircraft scale ranges.

I originally painted these little chaps as part of a competition on the Lead Adventure Forum, but I also entered them into the Unit category at Sheffield Irregular's IMP09 event, where they won me the bronze award! Hurrah! :)

Clearly photography is still one of my weak points, but I keep working on it! :)  Used a tripod and a white top on my photobox, this time!

Your C&C are most welcome!

Just received her - and she is very lovely!

cold cup of tea ( forgot it was on my desk), 3 antacid pills and a cream cracker!

Now that sounds like nouvelle cuisine!

 The guy who complained is clearly mental. How is the shop manager to blame for the sweet wrappers. If it was me, and the guy had come up to me, I'd have asked him to explain in lurid detail  what exactly was going on in his opinion, with details, and wound him up to the point of heart attack, then told him he's a pervert and thrown him out. Get a life, Mr Simpkins. Get a life. Same to your wife.

Of course, saying all that, it IS quite hard to explain what the little MAOAM feller is actually doing to the lemon if it's not having sex! The cherries sort of can be explained as over enthusiastic fruit appreciation...

I think I get an idea of why his wife had to have a sit down in the car park.  It is probably something she has to do quite a lot.

Saturday: I went to Sheffield Irregular's IMP event, where I won Bronze in the Unit Category with my HF Kindred Unit! (Pics to follow when I've taken some decent ones!)

Sunday: Discovered the smallest member of the Keeper household has contracted chicken pox. Yay! :( Had a quiet day in the house playing with the kids followed by almost no sleep

Monday: Kids crashed in front of the TV quite a lot or played quietly with dolls whilst we ripped up plants and moved large stones around in the back garden in an attempt to finally get rid of that ridiculous oversized pond that has been bugging us since we bought the house! However, both kids now know what a Dalek and a TARDIS are. Yay! :) Dr Who #4 FTW

Ten thousand of my deepest apologies :notworthy:

It can only because I saw your painted minis when I went for the link and got toungue-tied at the sheer brilliance of your painting! ;)

(Don't even get me started on the old adventurers. Ask Craig. )

Don't need to ask Craig - every time I order one ('cause I like 'em I often add one or two to my orders) I get a hand written note on my slip stating in very clear terms that you wanting to resculpt them! :D LOL

A good couple of coats of a decent paint on gloss varnish to seal everything then a couple of coats of Dull Cote lacquer. You won't get a tougher or flatter finish.

:metoo:  Only I use spray-on craft polyurethene varnish, that I usually get from DIY stores, then brush-on Dull Cote lacquer.

And I remember Ocrtrader always posts this link: http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/orctrader/Articles/Varnish.html  (Sorry for the pre-empt OT!)

Everyone else has their own opinions on this tricky matter, though! :D

Although on one of the other subjects, it's just broken that Plaxico's plea bargained to 2 years prison

Thanks for the heads-up on this one Chris.  I am much less annoyed to hear he is accepting some responsibility for the very silly thing he did.

Remember kids - carrying loaded firearms (especially illegal ones) in the waistband of your pants is a very bad idea!
