Announcements and News / Re: White Metal
« on: March 30, 2007, 12:40:57 PM »
I received mine yesterday, that I had ordered on pre-order.  I have all three cultists (actually I have five, two juniors, two moms and a pop) and a Sarah.

They're great :)  Honestly, the sculpts aren't quite as good as Kev's work (I mean, what is!), and they're just a little bit flat.  But that is being a little over-critical.  They're also cheaper than your regular top-quality HF mini, too.  They look fantastic in the flesh (well, white metal, anyway) and the cultists are just what I was looking for as a little cult to oppose my Heresy Dark Brethren in a little D20 mini-game I am planning.

Sarah is even better than the cultists.  Her cuddly Cthulu is so, err, cute (I know Cthulu isn't cute, but you give me a better word to use!   ) and she'll be added to my small collection of Dunwichesque minis when she's finished.

I assembled and undercoated them all last night, and I can't wait to get onto painting them this weekend, if my daughters allow me any painting time, that is!

Hasslefree Babble / Re: Well Chuffed!
« on: March 29, 2007, 11:01:16 AM »
The sweets are a customer courtesy to ensure that you remember to eat something after receiving your Hasslefree order.  Its so easy to get distracted assembing and painting straight away, or even just looking at the cool stuff you've just bought and to end up skipping meals ...

Its called the lead-plan diet, I believe :)

Wait until you start painting them - they're even more fun to paint, than they are to receive in the post!

Although in my case, skipping a few meals would probably do me some good ...

the tree whatsit is excellent, love the victims hanging from it too!!! The Netherlady's tail is a little disturbing.....

I don't find the Netherlady any more distrubing than she should be.  I think both these sketches are fantastic, in fact, I'm tempted to change my votes ...

Don't confuse elementals with elements, that's my advice ;)
*slight spelling error corrected

Its also worth not confusing them with Emental either.  Unless you REALLY dislike Dutch cheese.

I came across a Cardamom Emental last week, but it was only a 1HD monster and it succomed quickly to my bite attack.

I'll get my coat, shall I? ...

This is really bad, but hacking into bank's computer systems is not the main problem.

I ran the accounts for a local charity for a short while, and twice during that time someone in Japan tried to steal approx. £7000 (each time) by forging mine and someone else's signature and posting a letter to the branch requesting a wire transfer.  Since I had intentionally used a slightly different signature for these accounts, and these accounts only on the advice of an accountant friend; and because the amount requested was only slightly less than the amount in the accounts at the time we all believe that this was an inside job, but the police have not been able to do anything about it.

If it hadn't been for the branch manager (and this was HSBC, Mirlo!) calling me to check on each occasion, these could easily have gone through.

It is really disturbing to see an attempt that someone has made at forging your signature without your knowledge, and I know its not quite the same thing, but I feel for you if your name is on this list.  Hope everything is OK with your accounts.

Yeah, it was kinda embarrasing

And it has just about stopped with the junior ENT doctor finally came to see me, but it was almost worth the 24 hours in hospital just to see her face as I felt the clot give way when she poked my nose from the outside and it started up again like a tap   :lmao:

Speaking from experience, you're right if the bleed is lower in the nostril.  However, if the bleed is further back, this just causes the blood to well up and run down your throat anyway.

In which case, attend your nearest A&E immediately.  They may even be able to help you with you lead additiction whilst you're there! If you want help, that is.

Ideas for New Heresy Models / Re: Fimirs!
« on: March 26, 2007, 12:36:18 PM »
I'd like a couple of character fimir to go with my unit of plastics. Recently saw a dirach and maegh go for £103 and £76 on ebay, and a warrior for £42

ebay can be a bit weird at times.  Fimir usually do go for these sort of prices, but I've pickup up a couple in the past for less than £10, partly, I think because they were not labelled Fimir.  Not to mention the Zoats for £4 each

It just takes a little time and patience to look through what is being offered for sale.  Although, this can be like seaching a sewer dragon for its treasure.  If I see any in the near future, I'll not bid and post the link here :D

And now we have stats!

I just have this nagging feeling that he is missing an undead template to make him complete ...

Ninja Pirate Lich that rides a Dinosaur ...
Ninja Pirate Zombie that rides a skeletal Dionsaur ...

Maybe I'm just having an undead thing today.

The TCR looks puddled on the Doc's clothing, which it would only do if he was wearing waterproofs I think.

I don't find the blood on the trousers too much - to me it looks like it just hasn't soaked into the cloth yet.

As someone who gets nosebleeds too often, I find that blood pools on the surface of fabric, especially heavier fabrics, before it is pulled into the cloth.  If you want to see this effect yourself, withut injuring yourself, try it with some milk (which has a similar consistency) on clothes that are going to go in the wash anyway.

Hmmm ... nosebleeds, paints toy soldiers, works with computers ... I sometimes feel like a walking stereotype.

I should also add that the monster and the doctor are absolutely fantastic.  Wish I could paint this well !!!   :blub:

PS. Please, please, please, please don't anyone injure themselves just to see who blood pools on fabric that would be  :swear: stupid. And I've read how impressionable some of you lot are!  :)

« on: March 26, 2007, 10:55:12 AM »
I didn't get to spend as long at Triples as I would have liked this year  :grrr:  but that was because our new baby daughter was finally discharged from hospital after arriving ten weeks early!   :D :lalala:

However, my loving wife insisted that I go and spend a couple of hours there whilst we were waiting for the paperwork to be finished ... and since it was within walking distance of the hospital I reluctantly acceded to her request :D

I passed the family Hasslefree in the corridor, but didn't bother them as they were clearly child-hearding and I was heading back to the hospital.

I hope that everyone who went had as good a time as I did.  Now I've just got to find some time when I'm awake enough to paint my new BS lovelies ...

Are they any parts of your ranges you will or won't be taking with you?

I was thinking of stopping buy and buying some Desolation Row minis, but I can't decide which, and my wife says I can't have them all :(  Well, not all at once, anyway :)

I would settle for a grymm head sprue, though, male and female variants, with ears and hair/beards would be ace  :lalala:

I know Kev is the King of Detail, but I think you must paint your Grymn in far more more detail than I do, if you want more ear hair on your Grymn!!!  :D

I'll get my coat ...

And in answer to Dan's question: France! And where would we be with too many rules?

Germany! And if we had rules that involved running away when the enemy turns up where would we be?

If you don't like red, you could try something different like Scarlet, Crimson, or perhaps Vermillion :-)

Or you could just consider a more traditional Red :-)  That would look good :D

Anybody buying that, or does it just look bad?

I'm buying that - for what its worth. It is not unusual for reptiles and amphibians have paler bellies than their top side.  I found that out when researching for my Evil EmpireTM Lizardman army.

A couple of frogs
A skink
A Green Crested Lizard

Infact Stalk's underbelly looks more realistic than one of those real frogs!!
