Suggestions (HF) / Feeling Hungry
« on: July 28, 2012, 05:27:38 PM »
So in the last few days I've read "The Hunger Games", "Catching Fire" and I'm now about a third through "Mockingjay".

Is there anyway a young woman of about 17, dressed in combats and a hooded top, with long hair in a braid, armed with a Bow and arrows, could find its way into the Adventurers range (Seems a pretty spiffy zombie hunter if you ignore the source material). Plenty of pics on Google.

The books are really rather good btw. Ignore the "Oh, it's just a Battle Royale rip off for the Twilight generation" nonsense you may have read. That's all just bollocks really.

General Ranting / Help a good company get their game made

I actually feel slightly bad about posting this considering what Andy posted earlier...but I'd like you all to at least consider helping my friends at Impact! miniatures get their Roller Derby board game funded via kickstarter.

There are some rather funky minis at one of the donor levels (I've seen, and indeed broken them, myself. Managed to drop one while loading the minis cabinet at Gencon last year...you couldn't tell after a drop of glue thankfully).

You wouldn't be here if you didn't like the little underdog companies....you know it makes sense.

Information / Re: Addresses
« on: May 13, 2012, 08:50:03 AM »
Some of us have odd foreign letters in our addresses (my street name has an for instance).
Paypal doesn't like this.
So I PMd Sally when I got my confirmation from Paypal. Not that it should be a problem the amount of stuff I've bought from HF over the years.

Those Grymn-aholic nutters'll buy anything ;)

I resemble this remark.

2 - I prefer to paint my own minis and don't feel they are truely mine if someone elses paint job is on them...

Abso-blinking lutely!!

I'll always look with a view to strip. I'm absolutely the same. If it's genuinely well painted I just move on.
I mentioned to someone that I'd bought some new GW minis for next month's NAF Championship (formerly the Blood Bowl GT), as my existing team of the race I wanted to play are non-GW (a mixture of hasslefree, Reaper and Impact! FWIW). He replied "But someone could have loaned you one"...he's right of course, but it would have felt so WRONG.

In this case I don't think the two were related.
Depression is probably not even the right medical or psychological term for what it was...anxiety is prossibly better. Was convinced that something was going to go horribly wrong with my child. Most likely relate dto the fact that, at the time, I was primarily working with Infant Leukaemia research.

Now, any of my other, probably myriad, psychological problems, there you may have a point.

I've only been to one city in the US, unles you count stopover time at O'Hare...but you could do worse than consider Indianapolis.

HUGEST game fair there is lives there.  There's an active gamer community there. It seems like a nice city to live in. I know of at least one other independent minis company based in the area (Impact!).

Not sure about the winter climate, but it has been pretty damn hot the times I've been there.

Related to the EBay thing: what people describe as "Pro" or "Expertly" painted. The conceit involved when it's not even something you can hide or claim ignorance over...

I'm never going to complain about my life again.

FWIW I'm sure I've pretty much blanked out the hardest part of my life, which pretty much encompasses my life from age 13 to 18. Bullied at school and my Dad getting ill, going into remission, then getting ill again and passing away not long after I left for University.

Moving to a different country and having the standard trials of parenting (with a bout of paranoid depression that had me seeing a psychologist while my wife was in the third trimester) seem like nothing compared to that and what you lot have been through.

« on: March 21, 2012, 08:03:46 AM »
With Jo as a thrower, Madison as Linewoman and Danni as Runner/Catcher all that's really needed is a Blitzer type.

FWIW I have fully female Norse, Amazons (duh) and Elf teams from various manufacturers, and there are female Human, and various flavours of Elf minis out there too.

TBH though, the "Fantasy Football" market is pretty saturated as is, and unless Kev really feels the urge to sculpt something like this I don't think he should bother.

I'll be grabbing a couple. No idea what they'll be used as...but that's not stopped me before.

Now about the grav bikes...

And lo, mini was finished in time, and much appreciated. Now sat next to the Reaper Wood Elf Archer I did for her ages ago.

I like DWARFS...why the hell am I giving my wife poncy pointy eared tree huggers?

next year it'll have to be one of the cool female Dwarf warriors.

Addendum: as I was lacking inspiration for something to give her, I am desperately trying to get a Shimmer done for the missus for Valentines day. Needs more highlights and the base needs finishing....but I should be OK. (I do have something else as well)

« on: February 08, 2012, 09:45:12 PM »
Skirmish rules based in the Evil Empire's Sci fi Grim dark future setting. Not looked at the rules themselves yet, but saw immediately that there were rules for playing Space Dwarfs. This made me dig through my big box of Grymn-not-yet-assigned-to-a-project and throw together a small Warband of 7 figures.

I'd imagine quite a lot of HF minis would be good (Mutants, Human soldiers, Space pirates, etc etc etc.)

If the rules are any good I'll be very chuffed. Has anyone played them?

Just ordered a couple of minis for my son - batkid and a jediKid.
Also just remembered that I ordered a bunch of random stuff summer before last. One of the models was one of the nuddie dancers, so I painted her up and gave her to a mate who is a gamer with a fondness for dancing girls.

Black Jack = Licorice = going straight to the wife who loves the stuff (I can't stand it).
Anything else I'm lucky if my son doesn't grab while I'm admiring my new acquisitions.

Did the "court of the Brownie king" for the wife, for no apparent reason. She's a fantasy nerd too so she loved it.
I've done her a couple of Reaper minis too, just cos.

My five year old got started on his pirate today as I tried to get some paint on a Vampire Blood Bowl team.
I had to remove some of it, where he'd been a little generous loading his brush, but it's a start.

I needs me an Andreah and Smudge with Pulse rifle...

Well. I say NEED...but they'll look so spiffy as part of my Space Pirate crew that I will one day get around to painting...
