Random Chat / Heresy Dragon unboxing on youtube
« on: June 20, 2014, 05:32:12 PM »
Well people, my Dragon arrived today and I decided to do you all a treat and upload my first youtube video ever. As luck would have it my camera's memory card was full of a load of old photos and it stopped recording about 5 minutes in so I went and archived them all before filming the rest of it.

Hope you folks enjoy the spectacle :).

Here's a link to part 1.

And here's a link to part 2.

Suggestions (HF) / Armoured knight: Sir Richard in Maille
« on: June 17, 2014, 07:52:30 AM »
Now I originally suggested this in the Heresy suggestions forum. Andy liked the idea but says he simply hasn't got time.

I'm not a football fan. Don't fancy it really. It's just not my thing. However I recently came across a video for a football song from 2010 that has resurfaced recently. An aging knight armoured in maille who happens to be unexpectedly left handed and likes to give rousing speeches. Ideally he would not be sculpted in a combat pose but would rather be speaking passionately and probably gesturing drammatically, sword still in it's sheath. I like the fact that he's in maille rather than plate (and also it's a suitable pun on the actor's surname). He could almost be an inspiring ancestor of Gwen and Olwyn. I can almost hear him now. "Once more onto the base dear paint to fill up this void of empty space...."

Why did I suggest it to Heresy first? Well while I'm sure Kev would do a cracking sculpt if he wanted to I could also see this armoured gentleman fitting in quite well with the Heresy style (and the little dancing Michael Jackson zombie they already sell).

Now this might not be the best video out there, it might not be a good song, but it seems a fitting tribute to one who has amused us for many years and is almost prophetic as he comes stepping out of the past in a haze of light only to eventually fade away when his work is done. If he should happen to be accompanied by a crooning Enya lookalike who magically materialises out of his shield to encourage him on to further feats of valour then I would not complain either :).

Ideas for New Heresy Models / Armoured knight: Sir Richard in Maille
« on: June 12, 2014, 06:58:16 PM »
Now we know that Andy's done at least one topical miniature in recent years. Here's an idea for another one (inspired by a video that I recently came across) that's also pretty topical. An aging knight armoured in maille who happens to be unexpectedly left handed and likes to give rousing speeches. I could easily see him fitting into a Netherhells adventuring group.

Now this might not be the best video out there, it might not be a good song, but it seems a fitting tribute to one who has amused us for many years and is almost prophetic as he comes stepping out of the past in a haze of light only to eventually fade away when his work is done.

Suggestions (HF) / Lady Ulthrak
« on: May 04, 2014, 05:25:04 PM »
"Like" Lord Ulthrak but a lady. What do I mean by this? Well not something identical, obviously. I'm thinking a similar amount of armour (in a similar style), a bulky two handed weapon - I'm thinking a flanged mace with perhaps one or two spiked bands about it's haft. Another way to think about it would be to imagine Kalee wearing as much armour as Tiriel or Gwen (but in Lord Ulthrak's more armoured nasty spiky style)..... and not resembling Kalee too much. She'd be her own individual.

Now I know we've got Jenova but I was thinking more along the lines of a companion model for his Lordship so a two handed weapon and a slightly more commanding pose would be appreciated. For some reason I think she should have slightly latino features if bare headed. Maybe she should have two alternate heads. Oooh, now I'm getting an idea for a sort of half helmet head that covers one side of her face (and enough of the other for for it to stay on). I might have to sketch this.

The Computer Zone / Mordheim computer game?
« on: March 26, 2014, 10:44:09 PM »
Ooooh. Apparently Focus Home Interactive (the same people who made the Blood Bowl computer games and all five of those Confrontation computer games (Confrontation, Aarklash Legacy, Of Orcs and Men, Dogs of War online, Styx - master of shadows) have announced that they will be making a computer game of Mordheim.

This certainly looks promising. I wonder how they'll do it. I suspect the warband management will be done in a way similar to the Blood Bowl team managment system they had in place but beyond that I'm not sure how it will play. It certainly looks like fun 'though.

This idea was originally inspired by the thread about what gangs we might like to see in plastic. I'm not sure it's large enough to count as a gang 'though so I'm listing them here instead.

obvious acronym

would comprise of four figures. Maybe even five.

Andy Roid/Anne Droid would be an android with very nice manners who's head looks like it was designed by cubists. Andy believes he is male although he's been classified as female due to a lack of male genitalia.

Reginald is an aspiring engineer who dreams of promotion (but he's actually a bit hapless when it comes to giving orders, or doing exams, or being in control of any sort of situation). He likes to try to boss the others around but isn't very good at giving advice or asserting his authority.

Dave Skaggs (a.k.a Skaggsie) is a working class scavenger with dreadlocks and a taste for pot noodles & curry. He has a kind of love/hate relationship with Reginald that's best described as complicated.

Elvis is a particularly vain individual who just so happen to have evolved from cats. He has a ponytail, fangs, a self proclaimed "great fashion sense" and an addition to mirrors or dangling bits of string.

Rumour has it that there may be a fifth member of the team. She is rumoured to be a Womb-An although she's only rarly spotted (and such sightings are even less likely to be corrobotated/confirmed). Exact details as to her appearance vary depending on the reports which makes her existance even harder to confirm.

The A.R.S.E's may come with optional Bazookoids  :paranoid2:.

So what do you guys think? Fun for an idea or not?  :silly

Other Mini's, RPGS, Etc / Erm ... Heroquest returns....?
« on: October 20, 2013, 06:16:44 PM »
Well hello there guys. It looks like Gamezone are planning on doing a crowdfunding campaign to produce a 25th anniversary edition of Heroquest. I somehow suspect they didn't get the rights from Games Workshop (possibly from Milton Bradley but I swear I had my copy of Heroquest before 1988, a good one or two years before, in fact, since I received it as a Christmas present at the age of eight or nine and the chronology simply doesn't add up). Perhaps the fact that Avalon Hill/Chaosium bought the rights to call Runequest Heroquest then started calling it the Hero System or maybe it's just been around enough to be public domain.

I hope they don't get legal stomped into the ground by GW's anti everything legal team. Does anyone else know anything about this rumour? So far it's just a picture on the new Gamezone website announcing that they'll start trying to fund it soon but beyond that I haven't found very much yet.

If you don't believe me go and see for yourself.

Eye Candy / Short sword girl
« on: October 14, 2013, 01:01:23 AM »
So when do we get to hear about short sword girl?

Apparently she has a really impressive back which deserves multiple angles and might be related to Titus the Reman. Hopefully her swords will gain quillons. Perhaps she'll eventually cease to be known as short sword girl and become ripped top girl. I can imagine a few different interesting hairstyles for her and some minimal upper body armour. I should imagine that partial shirt will be completed. Possibly one or two leather shoulderpads. Maybe bracers (maybe not). The crossed belts look like they might have scabbards hanging off them too. Or at least they should have.

Oh, and ears. Hopefully ears as well.

Eye Candy / Man with a sword

Man with a sword. man with a sword. He really looks like a male version of Gwen. Perhaps her brother came back home from the wars or something.

Hasslefree Gaming and Fluffery / Daddy's armour
« on: June 13, 2013, 11:17:28 PM »
Everyone knows the tales of Gwen of the Vale. How she rose up to face the challenge in her father's absence and became known as a true defender of her people. When Egrevard was called away to war he sat his daughter down and informed her that, as his only child, she was to be left in charge of the keep during his absence. Hers it would be to govern and protect the people of the valley beneath the castle walls and to hold the keep against aggressors who would seek to take it from the family line. He was trusting her to be responsible, relying on her to look after his holdings while he was away.

During the weeks leading up to his departure Gwen took many trips to the castle armourer. He would chat in a friendly and reassuring manner as he fitted her for her armour but every time he called it her armour she would correct him. "It's my daddy's armour," she would say, "he's paying for it". And she adamantly stood by this notion despite arguments to the contrary. Many took this to mean that she disliked wearing the suit, that it chaffed, wounded her pride to be contained within an iron cage. But as the months passed and she patrolled the walls come rain or shine, a thick cloak to swaddle her 'gainst the mountain mists that would descend down the valley side from the peak's above, she seemed to grow accustomed to it.

Only she knew the truth. It was her father's armour, not because he paid for it, but because whenever she wore it, it was as if he wrapped his big arms around her to protect her from harm. This sturdy suit of iron was all she had to remember him by as she paced the castle walls and yet, whenever she felt at risk, she knew that he and every one of her ancestors before him was there with her in those times of trouble.

Stuff I haven't included. I sense that her mother died when she was young (not died in childbirth 'though), so she's lord Egrevard's only living offspring. Possibly his only living direct relative. I just like the idea of the armour serving a dual purpose to help her absent father feel close.

Other Mini's, RPGS, Etc / Raging Heroes: Funded in 30 seconds!
« on: June 06, 2013, 05:42:57 PM »
Well that was unexpected.

Okay, so "everyone" knows that Raging Heroes said they were going to do a kickstarter. They must've spent four or five months hyping it up and telling everybody they could that the kickstarter project was coming. What's it about, you ask? Seriously? Well, in case you don't know they're basicaly doing female multi part (ball joint assembly) imperial guard........  Alright, let's be a little bit more specific. They're doing 3 different female science fiction armies. First are the Jailbirds division. These are basicaly Mad Max meets Tank Girl with added attitude. Secondly there's the Kurganova shock troops (they look a bit like space marines or imperial guard but not very 40k style - more Russian). And finaly there's the Iron Empire who have a strong Prussian influence and look a bit like space Nazi's.

So they spent ages spreading the hype. During the last few weeks it started to tire a bit as they kept quibbling over delays and saying "we'll start it soon, really" and dilly dallying. Then they put a countdown clock on their website. The clock didn't take Daylight Saving Times into account so when I went to check Kickstarter at the appointed time the project wasn't quite up yet. Assuming they hadn't taken daylight saving time into account I checked back about 90 minutes later only to find out that the project had gathered $120-130k in funding already and was fully funded with room to spare!

Some time later the project creators had to admit that the project was funded within 30 seconds of going live. That must be setting some kind of record. Clearly all that hype they'd been building had paid off.

So here's a link for you all.

What do you guys think? I like them. I might go in for a couple of heroines and 2 units (1 jailbirds, 1 Kurganova's) to mix and match into various games like Sedition Wars or Necromunda. I like the Dropship program which means I could go and pick up things from a shop in Salisbury when they've got them in stock instead of waiting for them to arrive through the post. Not sure if I want to take a few bus rides or simply wait by the post box for now.

While I'm making this post I might as well share some of the pretty pictures with you.

If only it was out for a real computer :(.

And if only it was based on something decent like Heroquest or Advanced Heroquest instead of the imbalanced dice pool madness :(.

My vote's for Bessie.

Other Mini's, RPGS, Etc / Maelstrom Games are pulling a scam
« on: October 27, 2012, 03:45:39 PM »
Alright, so seeing the obvious closing down sale as a great opportunity to order some of the harder to obtain objects Maelstrom Games have been known to stock I placed an order with them for four items. The box arrived the saturday before last (exactly two weeks ago) with three items in it reather than the four I'd been charged for.

I have had no problems with them in the past but over the last two weeks they have refused to respond to customer services emails and refused to answer the phone. During this period they have contineud to advertise their massive 40% off stock clearance sale.

I am not the only one being scammed by these despicable people. Apparently some customers are 100-150 out of pocket as orders are simply not arriving. A website has recently appeared called Eye of the Storm. It's got the same logo, same website layout. Apart from the name change and deleting the customer database so people can't complain to them it is exactly the same website. Do not trade with them.

A supplier that I know has stopped supplying them and he's probably the only one. Apparently yesterday or today they changed their company name again. This is clearl;y out of order. Do not trade with them if you get a chance.

Movies/TV/Music Zone / Red Dwarf season ten
« on: October 04, 2012, 09:47:39 PM »
Well it's off to a good start. Nice to see them harking back to the older days instead of the recent three parter and the last 1 or 2 seasons where it just got ruined.

Hasslefree Babble / Kev beat me to it
« on: October 04, 2012, 05:08:42 PM »
You know I've been spending the last few months wondering if I should make a post in the suggestions forum and ask Kev to give little Kalee (B) a sword option so we can make her look like big Kalee but my oder arrived today and, to my pleasant surprise, he's gone and done it already. Well done Kev. I wasn't expecting that.

Libertee's Miscellaneous Musings II / It hasn't got what?
« on: August 02, 2012, 08:17:14 PM »
Alright, so there's this lovely little cottage just down the road from us that got knocked down a few weeks back. Now there's just a sort of empty field without a house in it that kind of looks wrong but I'll explain why later.

It's been there at least as long as we have (and we've been here twenty nine years) and given the fact that it was a rather quaint looking old cottage it's probably been there longer still.

The other day my father finaly managaed to find out what happened and it's an amusing tale.

The old boy who was hanging on to it finaly let it go and a new couple bought it up and moved in. Being ambitious they decided to add an extension, despite the fact that it was a lovely old cottage and there'd probably be a clash of styles and all sorts.

So anyway, they got a builder 'round to have a look at it and he said "you can't put an extension on that."

"Why not," they asked.

And he said to them "it's got no foundations."

Seriously. For all these years the thing was just resting on the ground. So now there's this fenced & hedged area the size of a pair of semi detatched houses that's half rocky pebbles and half grass where a back garden was. I don't know if the couple found somewhere else quickly but they aren't living there now and nobody seems to be trying to build anything yet. There's a for sale sign that's broken and fallen over but beyond that, nothing.

Mad huh? I mean foundations have been about since before biblical times but some mad nutter, in the recent past, decided to do without.

« on: July 28, 2012, 05:27:08 PM »
The original title of this thread was going to be "would you ink this hair?" But I've inked it now and intend to re-highlight. I'd lost too much definition on one side of the head and inked it down. Now I'll put the highlights back again.

Things to do:

1: Touch up the skin on her right forearm near the bracer.
2: Touch up knuckles on right hand.
3: Touch up pattern on left gauntlet.
4: Highlight the hair.
5: Do the base

When highlighted once again the hair should be back to this sort of tone on the highlights (but with better shading and less loss of definition on the left hand side of the head).

Those crazy Poles are at it again. The folks at Titan Forge are upping the stakes already set in place by their undead orcs and goblins. Now they want to do an entire undead orc and goblin army. They've started up an Indiegogo campaign

Here's a few pictures of the stuff they've already released for you guys to ogle to your heart's content.

Other Mini's, RPGS, Etc / Dwarf dwarfs
« on: June 29, 2012, 11:11:18 AM »
Well I saw these over on Beasts of War and went to check out the Kickstarter campaign for them. They're a bit cartoony but they look like they'd make great playing pieces for a boardgame. Hmm. Maybe I should dig out Dwarven Dig again.

Due to having met all their stretch goals within 2 or 3 days there'll also be this character and a dwarven necromancer too.

The plan is for them to form a small "balanced" adventuring party. I must say the price is remarkably good. I'm thinking of contributing myself.

Well seeing as how Studio McVey have jumped on the kickstarter bandwagon that Zombiecide, The Miskatonic School for Girls and a few sci fi skirmish games are riding, Avatars of War (you may know them well) have started a very ambitious project to do an entire dwarf army range. Looks like Wayne England (Games Workshop artist from the 80's & early 90's plus he did a lot of AD&D 3rd ed artwork too) did most, if not all, of the cocnept art for this.

It's a very ambitious list and I'm not sure they'll reach their basic funding goal in time. Personaly I'm not too fussed about all the bear stuff but the Iron Guard (I suspect Ironbreakers) and Valkyries really appeal to me. It'd be nice to see some female dwarf soldiers that aren't sculpted by Werner Klocke or Kev White (or whoever else did the few that Reaper produce that aren't Klocke-Work).

Enjoy the link.

Oh the joy of finding pictures before they turn up here. Can I suggest she gets a big chunky belt buckle of some sort? The recognisible metal chestpiece makes her look a little top heavy and a buckle might help balance it out. It'd also explain how that belt stays on.

Ooh. Could she possibly get a rather definitive (and barely functional) optional shield as well? Cheers.

The Colouring-in Room / Sword & Shield/Axe & Shield
« on: April 13, 2012, 04:40:41 PM »
My initial thoughts are roughly as follows:

1: I'm really going to regret doing the skin before the metal parts of that armour.
2: The effing flash. The effing flash! How do I turn off the effing flash?
3: I always get this skin tone wrong. It usualy takes me at least three attempts to get it right whereas all the other skintones I do come out right the first time. So I might redo the skin. I wonder if some very thinned down chestnut ink might improve the skin. Probably ruin it.
4: Lips aren't done yet.
5: The sword goes well with the shield. The axe goes well with the shield. The sword does not go well with the head but the axe does. Maybe I should start a poll.
6: Now that I've seen the photo's I've missed some skin (on the forehead beside the hair and the belly between some plates of armour). I can patch those up later or do them when I redo the skin. If I redo the skin.
7: I should total send her to Kev & Sally for "official photo taking" when she's done put they'd probably want the axe and head for shop pics instead.
