Hasslefree Gaming and Fluffery / Blast from the past

Remember this?

Well, I've dusted off the idea and am now doing this.

My son is learning CAD as part of his engineering schoolwork, so I got a copy of Solid Works and am using this model as a test for teaching myself! So far so good.

I always wanted to have a hollow version of my dropship so that I could deploy troops and vehicles from inside. This model is the same size as the physical one, and accomodates my old crow scout cars.

The design i've chosen is a bit of a pain as the height of the rear door becomes the limiting factor in getting vehicles in. SO to do anything bigger will require a MUCH bigger hull. I'm hoping to be able to scale the model up. The good news is that the design is very unlikely to accomodate walkers as they're too tall!!

The hope is that I'll be able to laser cut this out of ply/MDF to make the wooden skeleton/carcass you see here and then clad it in Lasercut styrene panels as the original is.

Fenris news / web site down?
« on: October 03, 2014, 04:52:37 PM »
I get a message saying

"Disallowed Key Characters." on any of the fenris pages.

The always useful "down for everyone or just me?" website suggests that it's only down for me... but i've tried that on three different devices on two networks and each gives the same...

General Ranting / I need help from an American FOD'er....
« on: September 29, 2014, 03:42:57 PM »
Hi

I need to buy a product that I can only find on the web in the USA or China at horrendous shipping and custom charges. Or in the UK at $ = plus extra rates.

Is there an American Fodder who would consider buying in the states and shipping to me in the UK. I'll cover all costs plus.

I don't want to advertise what I'm after, as it's part of my DoD entry, and it would give the game away.

Be grateful if anyone prepared to help could Send me a Private Message here or at Brandlin@btinternet.com

Thank you.

WIPs of Doom / Brandlin' WIP of doom - "that'll never fly"
« on: September 28, 2014, 01:01:06 PM »
"Don't Panic!"

"It's here somewhere."

"You can't possibly have thrown it out... it's here."

"You just cant find the nice, safe, easy to remember, I'll never forget where I put it safe place."

"Yes i know that was a year ago and I've moved all my modelling stuff from one room to another since then, and yes I know I'm untidy, but honestly, I can't have LOST it can I?"

"Don't mention the 'L' word... that's tempting fate!"

...

WIP pictures will be published just as soon as I can find the GRAV BIKE!

WIPs of Doom / Brandlin : Pick on a diorama your own size!
« on: September 28, 2013, 01:41:13 PM »
Starting picture showing all the major components:

This will be a tongue in cheek scenario featuring two interlinked diorama's - as you might be able to tell from the oddly shaped MDF base.

I can promise a reappearance of Bob and Dave from my DoD 2011 entry "Do you think he'll notice?"; and we shall find the inept duo have been sacked from their line marking jobs and have set up their own scrap business!

Suggestions (HF) / armorcast cinematic effects
« on: September 15, 2013, 08:56:18 PM »
Hi Mr/Mrs White or Mr/Mrs Black (or indeed any of the alleged 50 shades of grey between)...

Are there any intentions to restock these?

I finally have a need for a few of them, and now I find they are out of stock, and armorcast want $13 to ship me anything!

If not, then is there another UK outlet you are aware of?

General Ranting / Hello ... Is there anyone here...?
« on: April 20, 2013, 11:59:28 AM »
No, of course not. You've all gone to Salute (or Reapercon). There's just me and the forum mouse left behind... :(

First time in seven years I've not made it to salute and I'm depressed.

If there's a finished grymn grav bike on the hassle free stand, then heads are going to roll...

I'm sure these aren't new.

But I really want one.

All the text is in the photo, so online translators aren't working. Any Spanish speakers help me out?

Non-FOD minis / Old crow goodies
« on: February 07, 2013, 09:14:51 PM »
I've been meaning to show these for a few months but things have been hectic

Saw this at salute 2013...

And got Jez at old crow to sell me some before they went in his store...

The vehicles are modular, allowing a huge variety of arrangement. I'm gong to magnetise mine. The only problem I can for see is that my previous camo pattern will be a nightmare on the various combinations...

As always more pictures and chat on my blog, link in my signature...

General Ranting / *** NOW *** Looking for luggage...
« on: November 11, 2012, 04:37:55 PM »
Might seem a little daft, but I'm looking for some model cardboard boxes. Resin white metal etc. I'm particularly after things hat look like cardboard, slightly bowed sides, rounded edges, inaccurate flaps. Not just square blocks...

Various sizes up to and including tea chest size...

ANY ideas at all?

Any idea on release dates? I'd like them for my UDOD

20

That's my Plan A entry... with a couple of resin bits still to come.

I normally undercoat in black but I've done these in white because I want the final scheme to be quite bright and cartoony. I cant get over how much more detail I can see with the light undercoat! Damn, does that mean i have to colour in all the bit I can now see that i could have safely avoided before?

Seriously, either i've rapidly deteriorated in painting skill in the last year since i painted anything or Kev is getting much much better at small detail! My brush feels like a cotton bud (qtip) and i'm looking down the wrong end of a telescope whilst trying to hold the figure still whilst sat on the washing machine during the spin cycle!

On a slightly different note I think i've had to spend longer cleaning up these figures than any other hasslefree figures i've ever painted. The mold lines are not terrible but ive spent about 3 hours cleaning up 10 figures and now they are primed I can see loads of bits i've missed :(

Hasslefree Babble / Scooby van
« on: August 25, 2012, 01:16:51 PM »
Any ideas for a current online retailer for a scooby van in 1/48 to 1/56 scale?

I have diorama idea...

I got to musing earlier about grymn stuff that I've seen wip shots for, but as yet haven't made it into production.

I'm sure I'm missing a few, so maybe others (Inso) could fill in he gaps...
  • Original grav bike (yes, I thought I'd plug this early)
  • New grav bike (that apparently I put Kev off finishing - sorry)
  • Original grav tank (same gestation period as the original grav bike)
  • Freya APC (new SketchUp modelled APC)
  • new SketchUp  modelled tank
  • Mortar Team (including mortar, mortar operator and spotter (from memory))
  • powered armour troops - I think these were going to be modular?

personally the ones I really want to see are highlighted in red...

So, what have I missed?

Hasslefree Gaming and Fluffery / 6mm grymn substitutes
« on: June 03, 2012, 05:44:10 PM »
Sssshhhhh...

Don't tell anyone I asked because this is for a secret project that may not come fruition...

As I've said a few times before, I've always wanted to be able to game 6mm battalion level games and then "zoon in" to resolve skirmishes etc in 28mm. I'd love to be able to do this with keys grymn figures...

I'm looking for 6mm sized figures that could be used as proxies for grymn. I'm NOT looking for cartoon squat proxies. Im also not too bothered about scale, so although grymn are only around 22mm in 28mm "scale" I'm not worried about using full "human sized" 6mm infantry. I'm mostly interested in figures with a similar "feel" and "tech level" to them.

I'm aware of dark realm miniatures and their pax Arcadia miniatures might be ok...
I'm also aware of exodus wars, but their guild troops are but fudge, though their humans might be ok...

Any other options?

Ps Kev, sculpt me some grymn walkers in 6mm too ? ;)

Suggestions (HF) / Dwarf shields
« on: April 07, 2012, 11:46:22 PM »
Kev /Sally

Any chance of round dwarf shields without the central boss that I could substitute on all your new dwarf releases?

I like painting shields and there simply isn't enough flat space with the boss there, and I'm not a fan of the "odd shapes"...
