General Ranting / Hi again advice needed
« on: January 20, 2012, 10:45:54 PM »
hi there all,

i've rediscovered my account on here and started lurking again.  lots of things have happened since i last properly posted on here.

major thing was i developed carpal tunnel syndrome and started to lose the use of my right hand.  i had surgery last week and stictches come out next week.  during the time off work i have been rediscovering miniatures and the FOD.

i have a few minis left and was thinking about painting again.  my hand hurts post surgery but is getting better.  its not so dextrous and i'm not allowed to do owt that put pressure on the scar.   how long do you think i should give it before i re-start painting?

anybody have any experience of this as i am getting bored..can hold a paintbrush but cant apply any pressure and dont want to fudge up my recovery

answers please

Suggestions (HF) / suggestion for the web shop
« on: January 17, 2012, 10:55:26 PM »
Hi Sally and Kev,

it's been an age since i posted on here.  visited the web shop and got a bit confused by it.  why are you listing the prices of the minis as  Łxxx + VAT  ??

as a suggestion please list the price us people in the UK would pay for the mini with all the VAT included.  on the cart page you can then breakdown what the price is without VAT added (as per your LTD company regulations)

in its present state i have problems working out how much i am spending without a calculator nearby.  people (myself included) are lazy and may be put off by not knowing the cost of a small potential order.

for example:  http://www.sourcebmx.com/product/bmx-racing-products/bmx-racing-frames/intense/intense-podium-09-mini/6285.shtml

hope this helps

Books/Comics/Etc / recommend me some comics
« on: January 19, 2011, 10:04:06 PM »
my kids are taking an interest in comics (batman superman and spiderman)  they have plenty of age appropriate stuff to be getting on with but i'd quite fancy starting to read some as well.

what sort of titles are good to read lately and have a consistently good story and writing

used to read spiderman and most marvel stuff in the mid-late 90's. it looks like it;s moved on a bit but some of the old stalwarts are still there.

some advice of what to pic up is appreciated.    thanks

General Ranting / painty paints
« on: October 05, 2010, 09:53:55 PM »
ok so i've got the paints out, had a half arsed and very eye opening painting session (read most of the paints were solid and it was a lot harder than i expected)

anybody got any recommendations for a good, compact set of paints that mixes well and can be thinned heavily without being rubbed off?

the vallejos that i own have separated and gone shiny or solid.

i dont want a big range, just 10 or so colours that can be used to mix and experiment again.......tips please

General Ranting / Movember....anyone taking part?
« on: October 28, 2009, 09:04:39 PM »
http://uk.movember.com/

I am growing a moustache this year for Movember.  I have decided to put down my razor for one month (November) and help raise awareness and funds for men’s health – specifically prostate cancer.

What many people don’t appreciate is that one man dies every hour of prostate cancer in the UK, more than 35,000 men will be diagnosed this year and that prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK.  Facts like these have convinced me I should get involved and I am hoping that you will support me.

To donate to my Mo, you can either:

•    Click this link http://uk.movember.com/mospace/153821/ and donate online using your credit card, debit card or PayPal account
•    Write a cheque payable to ‘The Prostate Cancer Charity - Movember’, referencing my Registration Number 153821 and mailing it to: Movember - The Prostate Cancer Charity, First Floor, Cambridge House, Cambridge Grove, London, W6 0LE.

Movember is now in its third year here in the UK  and, to date, has achieved some pretty amazing results by working alongside The Prostate Cancer Charity.  Check out further details at: http://uk.movemberfoundation.com/research-and-programs.

If you are interested in following the progress of my Mo, click here http://uk.movember.com/mospace/153821/. Also, http://uk.movember.com has heaps of useful information.

Thank you

sorry to say that i've moved away from the miniature releated hobbies .

instead i've taken to BMX racing and i'm having fun wearing myself out and generally finishing last in races

maybe i'll come back to the hobby at some point if my kids take an interest, but as for now it's a mini goodbye (in that i wont be doing the hobby but still enjoys the friends i've built up here)

take care y'all

General Ranting / beating the recession
« on: August 19, 2009, 11:35:38 AM »
somehow, despite this time of redundancies and tightening of belts i have by some freak chance managed to get myself a new job with a 2 grand increase in pay!

i'm a bit amazed that

1. i actually got the job, that i was sort of headhunted for

2. i managed to negotiate and increase in what the wanted to offer me.

yay!

General Ranting / pre mid-life crisis!
« on: July 20, 2009, 08:41:14 PM »
i think i'm getting old........well my body keeps trying to tell me that.

after all my previous eccentricities regarding extreme sports and bizarre methods of transport i can no longer roller skate  (yup my ankles have started to give up)

therefore i have decided i need to get a BMX !

this will : 1.serve the dual purpose of combatting old git-hood
2. make me uber cool with the laydeez and cool kids at work
3. help maintain my slightly bizarre profile
4. get me too and from work in a slightly faster than walking speed whilst getting 'some exercise'

any ideas for a good BMX  or where to get one?

General Ranting / advice needed on laptops/notebooks
« on: April 19, 2009, 09:39:52 PM »
we are trying to save space in our house and finally do away with the old PC that i am currently typing on.

as my wife already has a laptop for her own use, we are thinking of buying a laptop/notebook for my use and general messing about on.

anybody got any advice on good brands or existing notebooks out there that are not too tiny and not too pricey?

i'm looking for something mainly for web browsing and storing work on, that is not a hulkingly huge thing (i want to take it about with me) and thats under Ł500

i'm a bit  when it comes to technology these days

General Ranting / Pálffy prekonal 100-bodovú métu
« on: March 01, 2009, 12:29:18 AM »
Hokejista Žigmund Pálffy využil hneď prvý zápas play off na prekonanie stobodovej hranice v kanadskom bodovaní Slovnaft extraligy.

V prvej tretine štvrťfinále s Duklou Trenčín najprv útočník HK 36 Skalica v 17. min jubilejne asistoval pri góle Miroslava Ďuráka a druhú stovku načal gólom o 113 sekúnd neskôr.

V minulej sezóne sa Pálffy zastavil tesne pod 100-bodovou hranicou, s 37 presnými zásahmi a 62 asistenciami vyrovnal predchádzajúci 99-bodový rekord (32+67) Pavla Demitru z Dukly Trenčín z lockoutového ročníka 2004/2005. Pálffymu sa v tejto sezóne podarilo dosiahnuť 99-bodovú hranicu už v dlhodobej časti sezóny, ešte pred začiatkom play off. Na dosiahnutie rekordnej hranice potreboval iba 54 stretnutí.

Vlani na 99 bodov potreboval 59 zápasov, Demitra dokonca až 66 súbojov. Šancu dosiahnuť 100-bodovú métu už v základnej časti Pálffy nevyužil, keď v utorok vynechal súboj posledného kola nadstavby v Košiciach.

Pálffy v tejto sezóne už jeden rekord prekonal, keď získal najviac bodov v dlhodobej časti extraligy. Doteraz tento zápis patril Demitrovi z lockoutovej sezóny 2004/2005, v ktorej nazbieral 82 bodov. Ďalších 17 potom pridal v play off.

General Ranting / could do with a bit of luck next week
« on: February 12, 2009, 01:45:59 PM »
next monday and tuesday i have a few career defining moments, and i could do with a fair bit of luck to make it through both of them.

next monday i have a job interview with a city law firm (london), that could seriously ease some of my financial worries and give my family a better standard of life if i get the job.

next tuesday i have to attend a trial, that could potentially mess up my law career ( i wont say what it's about, but some of you know)

so if you know any good luck dances/spells please send it my way and keep your fingers crossed on monday & tuesday next week. 8:::

Libertee's Miscellaneous Musings II / enjoying things a second time round
« on: January 10, 2009, 11:17:24 PM »
there are a few things from our past that evry once in a while come back with the joy that is children.  i'm wondering if there is anything you guys have enjoyed taking up for a second time (i.e you did it when you were a kid, now you do it with your kids)

mine is skating:

this was the first time i'd skated on 6 or 7 years after playing ice hockey at university and semi pro level. it was also my daughter's first time skating ever and i'm quietly hoping she might enjoy going again.....and again!  :paranoid2:

General Ranting / new years plans
« on: December 30, 2008, 11:38:01 AM »
what are you all up to tomorrow evening? what's the general consensus...........are you staying in or going out?

lack of cash for a babysitter means i'm staying in with the wife (and hoping the kids go to bed early for once!)

i might have gone out on my own.........but is anyone else feeling that it's just too expensive this year?

Libertee's Miscellaneous Musings II / met Steve Guttenberg today
« on: December 29, 2008, 10:06:54 PM »
met this guy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Guttenberg today whilst buying batteries in Curry's .

thoroughly nice chap and good to chat with. we had a rather risque conversation on how hot the girl in front of us (in the queue) was and he was greatful for a good down to earth natter.

he's in the local panto (which i've seen with the wife and kids) and aparently likes wargaming and miniatures too , but as more of a collector (of american war of independence stuff)
