Thought I'd just pop my head in for a moment and see what's happening...

Grav bike?

Hi inso, steel penguin...

Yeah I've been away a while, poor health and a few other things... Thought I'd drop by my once favoured hang out....
: Re: Anyone here...?
: beefcake March 28, 2016, 11:22:59 PM
Me too. Still here. Such a pity that the traffic here has really come to a halt. I must paint up more of my heresy kickstarter stuff to show.
: Re: Anyone here...?
: Internalclock March 29, 2016, 07:12:22 AM
Still here. Mostly to see Insos and bulldogUKs new sculpts and shower them with praise :)

: Re: Anyone here...?
: Steve Wingate March 29, 2016, 09:58:02 AM
I pop in most days to check new posts, but they seem to be an endangered species.
I blame Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, as these are getting the news feeds first - I think?  :erm:
: Re: Anyone here...?
: Inso March 29, 2016, 11:00:04 AM
With the amount of miniatures based groups on Facebook, it doesn't surprise me that traffic on the forums has died off... it isn't just this forum that is affected, lots of forums I visit are like ghost towns :(

It's a shame because I can't get Facebook at work :D!

Still Lurking

I'm still here. I check the place every day but I don't post anymore coz I rarely get to paint anything.
: Re: Anyone here...?
: leadhead April 01, 2016, 02:45:49 AM
Still here a bit.  Have not painted in quite some time.  Tinkered with a few injection plastic kits lately.  Hope to tinker some more then share what's been going on.
: Re: Anyone here...?
: Brandlin April 01, 2016, 07:26:14 PM
Well, hello at least to some old friends, glad to know you are all still here!

I opened a box over Easter containing 34 old crow vehicles and before I knew it had spent the rest of the day gluing and modelling...

So I think I may have the bug back again after a long time ill/away.

Now... Where can I find a small one man (grymn) recon flier, or parts to make one. I'm thinking lift fans, minimal weaponry, no more than 75mm, 4" long.... Angular like old crow models rather than curvy...

All ideas and suggestions welcome.

There is this on Ebay:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DWARF-GYROCOPTER-OSPREY-Bird-of-Fire-FOR-WARGAMES-STYLE-WARHAMMER-SQUATS-/141946080588?hash=item210ca54d4c:m:mRGF_JX-I3IGf4uASJjBldA

Or this from Pardulon ( a bit bigger):

http://pardulon-models.com/en/vehicles/complete-kits/55/dragonfly-xrt-16-vtol

Or maybe something like this?:

http://miniaturescenery.com/ProductPage.asp?CODE=VH1ZEPENG

Or a bit bigger:

http://miniaturescenery.com/ProductPage.asp?CODE=VH1DODO

Then of course... you could have a grav bike or two ;) :

: Re: Anyone here...?
: Brandlin April 02, 2016, 12:19:57 AM
Helpful as ever Inso thanks.

That eBay one is interesting in design but way too big.

I have the pardulon one as well as the similar antenociti's firefly, both good but too big for my current idea.

Stylistically I like the first miniature scenery one , I had forgotten about them, I like the single rotor design and compact size but dislike the "I AM MADE OF MDF" look, though I admit they do push the envelope of what's possible in laser cutting. But that first one is just the kind of squat dumpy simple industrial look I want! Thanks I hadn't thought one rotor - the engineer in me says no, but this time I may not listen ;-)

I'd forgotten about maxmini too.

Lots to think about. Although I maybe buy more of these from zinge industries (I have one set) and fabricate a body myself, pair of lift fans over a slim cockpit, and a very very short tail, nose cannon and fixed landing gear, passable as a large drone as well as one man recon vehicle. http://zinge.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&path=110_76&product_id=70

I need three so I may toy with cad and then 3D print.

Thanks for fuelling the muse.

Don't forget these for fans:

: Re: Anyone here...?
: Brandlin April 02, 2016, 04:42:51 PM
 :metoo:

Those are the ones I used on the Hasslefree flier. They're likely too big for what I need the smallest size is 30mm and that's the largest of the zinge industries ones.

I'm still here! Mostly lurking... Haven't painted anything for months, since things went a bit crater-shaped in my life a while back. ...I'm working on setting up a workbench in my new place, though, and I'm hoping to start in on some Kickstarter games (Zombicide: Black Plague, B-Sieged) to get my edge back again. I've got a bunch of Fenris & Hasslefree minis waiting for the brush when I'm feeling confident again!
: Re: Anyone here...?
: Brandlin April 07, 2016, 12:44:32 PM
Thank you all for the suggestions. Some great new stuff I hadn't seen.

However nothing that quite grabbed my attention and met what was in my imagination.

I do like this that inso suggested
http://miniaturescenery.com/ProductPage.asp?CODE=VH1ZEPENG

But not in MDF, and possibly with two rotors/fans, not one.

So... I have "A Plan!"

Involving...

And plasticard and green stuff and brass wire.

To make something to land on these...

It's a damned shame that this thread hadn't turned up in February... I had five of those Jedi spaceships sat in a drawer doing nothing so I sold them on :( . I would have sent you one...

Do you already have one? If not, the pod is perfectly sized for a Grymn pilot so it will work nicely :)

Been ill so haven't had time for forums or other chat groups. I do check in from time to time.
: Re: Anyone here...?
: Big Boris April 12, 2016, 03:26:21 PM
You can check in, but you can never leave. Well, you can. But you'll always be a part of it.

Seriously though, the majority of people are on social networks these days and have apps and stuff and suchlike. Yer old-fashioned bulletin board isn't as cool as it once was...
: Re: Anyone here...?
: Gothy Beans April 12, 2016, 09:59:21 PM
Goodness, I hadn't realised that it was becoming a ghost town. I feel bad for not checking in more often.
: Re: Anyone here...?
: Steel Penguin April 13, 2016, 06:48:26 PM
to be honest I check here most evenings, read anything new that catches my eye, and then make a comment if I think its not dumb, or offensive, and reasonably needed.
I don't do social media,  I find its too much of a background noise, and ive been in a office where some one wasn't paying attention to there job, and answered the phone with " hello facebook"   :tantrum:

though we have lost a lot of stuff under the weeding out old threads rule, I went looking for Lizcams old animated avatars and accompanying music a couple of weeks ago ( I wanted to have a smile at the wonderful silliness of them)  and found that they'd  evaporated  :(.

Holy crap... 2 years and a month without a post and without connecting. And the world is changed. Unluckily for me I don't touch a single brush from 18 months ago. Job & Family (but 90% job) are draining me, pure and simple. I remembered a "sparkling" community.

Forums are a dying breed...

I am still here and check the forum everyday. There are a few old stragglers...

like Inso here most days,  but the sound of the wind whistling, and the tumbleweeds rolling past is fairly prevalent.
: Re: Anyone here...?
: leadhead September 28, 2016, 06:14:32 AM
I haven't been around in a couple days.  Haven't painted in just shy of a year, sadly, frustratingly.  Too much work not enough time off.  I worked six days a week from mid September 2015 until somewhere around May this year.  I've been itching to sit down at my table.  Working hard to get time soon.
: Re: Anyone here...?
: beefcake September 29, 2016, 03:49:37 AM
I went through a dry spell of painting for a long time too. Then I ran out of games on Steam to play that held my interest and am trying not to buy any more so that I can give other hobbies a go.
: Re: Anyone here...?
: Inso September 29, 2016, 07:56:28 AM
I am at a point where I am starting to pack everything away for a move... so I am only tinkering.

That will stop totally very soon as I focus on all the other stuff for moving home :)

Because of all of the uncertainty (dates, times etc), my mojo has gone so I may as well pack everything away.
: Re: Anyone here...?
: BecauseWeIsMonsters October 01, 2016, 09:43:31 PM
I look in from time to time to see what people are making/painting. Once I get my camera to work and my stuff out of storage i will post a few pics.

īt seems that Hasslefree have stopped posting here. I dont even see an announcement about their kickstarter. Andy still makes some announcements on here.

When I remember to do so, yes. Facebook and Twitter are so much more convenient etc. But I try to remember to check in. I mainly do all the maintenance/admin stuff
