: WIP: Heresy (new) sci-fi troopers...updated
: dwartist May 16, 2012, 02:14:45 PM
...well, two at least! I say new because a) they're new and b) there are some revisions to the original releases I think eg helmets are bigger (and now have sculpted seams to enhance the idea of the helmet having a cover). Cracking minis - the SAW gunner is excellent! Just the base colours for the  camo and armour so far...

So, the standard troops I bought when they first came out won't match any further releases?

Great paint job, and thanks for the heads-up (no pun intended).

Don't get me wrong - they're not that much different. I always look at figures/vehicles from a painter's perspective and was making an observation  not a criticism.  You certainly wouldn't notice the difference on a gaming table.

These look great so far, can't wait to see them finished!

As to Pack 1 matching packs 2, 3, 4 and all the others to come:
a) Same design, done better. Guns slightly more macho by altering the ends, helmets slightly larger and more plausible. Heads made to be easier to fit.
b) So are you saying that because the one pack made two years or so ago is slightly different to the 100 possible packs to follow, you won't buy the 100?

I'm in the RAF. When we deployed to theatre, we were all issued with 'X' standard body armour and 'X' standard helmet. during my stay, there was a rolling process of upgrading both the body armour and the helmets... so there was a mix of equipment.

It is perfectly acceptable that deployed soldiers could have a range of equipment so why would sci-fi be any different?

Keep up the good work Andy, I like the sci-fi troopers a lot :)

Dwartist, lovely so far and I look forward to seeing them complete :)

You are a paranoid nut job Andy :D

@Dwarty - Nice colouring in. Are these different colours from those used on the last vehicle you did? They look more muted again

We were politely ignoring that. And the ones on pic #1 as well :P

Mould line? You mean the seam for the hinged flap that opens to reveal comms equipment?

Do you mean the Warthog II? Same colours but not highlighted yet...

I'll take your question at face value and assume you're gathering information for business purposes, and take the time to answer you:  yes.  It will make further purchases from the line less likely for me.  I have 16 "standard" troops, which is honestly enough bodies for my purposes, and I would rather convert existing troops to carry other weapons and maintain uniformity than spend more money on troops that don't match.

If some folks are able to rationalize mismatched equipment, that's fantastic, but it doesn't work for my purposes.

Sorry to drive the thread further off-topic but since I do like Andy, and Heresy, and want both to succeed, I wanted to give him whatever info might help.

Thanks, Lorbaat. Interesting POV. If you only ever need 16 troopers, then you're good to go. If you ever feel like doing an apparently completely different army division, maybe from two years further along the timeline, the rest of my Troopers will be there waiting for you.

In order to maximise sculpting output, I've had to choose a 'standard' gun, helmet and chestplate(s) to run with. The helmet is the same helmet with a little extra bulk and symmetry to it, the gun is the same but neater and more aggressive looking, the chestplate is again neatened up and a recess put in to allow for future head variants.

But the overall difference between Troopers 001 and troopers 002, 003 and 004 is really very minimal.
